A scenic drive along California's Pacific coastline offering beaches, historic lighthouses and old-time fishing villages.
Beautiful beaches and the coastline is really awesome with the waves crashing over the rocks. The towns are interesting as well with lots of quant little shops and some really good restaurants. Expect to pay a tad more on the coast but it really is worth it.

The front of this sprawling property is deceiving! It is beautiful, magestic and very romantic. We came in March, rain or shine ... we were determined. Family friendly and couple friendly. I think, due to rain, we were the only ones there .. or it seemed like it. Take your time, stroll, hold hands, and stop to literally smell the flowers. Would love to go back. They also have a cliff house with wall to ceiling glass window to sit back and enjoy the Mendocino cliff side.

The Wine Bar[n] at Glendeven Inn is Mendocino's only wine bar. Serving wine by the glass, bottle and tasting flight in its space that is part lounge, art gallery, and garden courtyard. Take your top choices home at winery prices – no markups! Pair your wine with fine cheese boards and charcuterie.
We enjoyed the free wine and appetizer every evening we stayed at Glendeven, in the Bar(n). The room is spacious and comfortable, with plenty of outdoor seating under the huge trees and surrounded by beautiful gardens. The accompanying gift shop is also nice to browse around in.

The Caspar Inn has existed continuously as a roadhouse since 1906.It is a boutique venue featuring an excellent dance floor and sound system, full bar, Inn and restaurant on the oceanside. The club hosts live music nightly. Tourists and locals alike enjoy the entertainment, community atmosphere, and artistic character of the Caspar Inn.A lot of history has happened at the Caspar Inn and we hope you will come to be a part of it.
I have never been let down when I have chosen Caspar Inn for entertainment. Small venue with live bands, great bartenders, and now they've added food that is way better than your average pup fare. NYE was fantastic this year as it was last year. Big fun party with locals as well as visitors from out of town who came up for the band (Fishbone).
I haven't stayed in the hotel.

This is a really cool bridge. You can't appreciate it if you just drive over it :), but if you look from the side or from below, you will see it for all it's worth. The river, bay, and ocean under and around it are stunning.

Amazing drive through between redwoods along the river. No trails or campgrounds were open after the rain, there were water standing everywhere under the trees. The trees are not giants, but still amazing size. You can see the giant logs and the few hundred year old clones growing around them in groups.
The coastal access at the inn in the delta is a not to miss. Everything was covered with driftwood and seals were sunbathing in the opposite side.

A scenic and appealing rugged promontory along the California coast.
There is a breathtaking array of natural things to see here from the sea in the distance to the trees and plants and wildlife that teems in the area.

We reserved this attraction, but didn't actually go out. It was difficult to get information on what to wear, how difficult it would be for us. We went to the meeting place and spoke with the operator, but he seemed uninterested in giving an opinion about anything we asked about. We were particularly interested in how difficult it might be given how strong the wind was. He was not encouraging.

This park's view of the Mendocino headlands is enhanced by a spectacular array of wildflowers.
This slice of the coast is such a beautiful spot it's almost hard to believe. You will want to see the beach and explore as well as hike some of the trails. WE did not go to the waterfall but we'll save that for another visit. The headlands are spectacular. We stayed at Van Damne State Park and that allowed us entry here too so be sure to ask if you are staying at another state park.

OPEN 365 DAYS a YEAR -- THERE IS NO FEE -- Built between 1908 and 1909, and extensively restored, it is one of the most complete Lightstations in the U.S. and hosts visitors, vacation rentals, receptions and weddings, plus education programs for classes of local students. The Light Station includes the Lighthouse, which is an active duty Aid to Navigation, containing the original Chance Brothers classic 3rd order Fresnel lens. -- Three restored Lightkeeper homes; the first is a period museum of a lightkeeper's house in the 1930s; the other two houses are comfortable vacation rental homes, -- The restored Blacksmith & Carpentry Shop houses the Marine Science Exhibit with its 240 gallon saltwater aquarium, -- Two lovely vacation rental cottages, and public restrooms, one by the lightkeepers houses and another in the Kearn farmhouse. THERE IS NO FEE to tour the Lighthouse museum/giftshop or the period museum lightkeeper's house, although your donations are welcome. The Lighthouse, 1st Assistant Lightkeeper's House and Marine Science Exhibit are open to the public from 11am to 4pm year-round, including holidays. The State Historic Park grounds are open from sunrise to sunset daily.
I am a big fan of lighthouses and this one definitely delivered. The grounds are beautiful with great ocean views and is dog friendly (must be on leash). The volunteer staff was very knowledgeable and friendly, imparting her wisdom and information about the lighthouse on us. You can stay on the grounds as well as climb up to the lantern room on certain days (check website for dates). From the parking lot it’s a 0.6 mile to the lighthouse.
