I have no special interest in this particular monastery, but I was in the area so visited. I was not particularly impressed, the interior of the church is very beautiful, but not extraordinary. Slightly odd to see so many expensives cars being driven by the monks, and also nice to see cats kept in fish bowls as part of fund raising exercises.
The town itself is very small with not much else to see, but attractively situated in the Don valley.

Yelets is a hum-drum sort of city, basically nothing going on here even on a Saturday. The main street has a few serviceable souvenir shops, and it says a lot for the dearth of attractions in the surroundings that this is one of the more historic and attractive sites. A few attractive buildings dot the old town, but unless you happen to be in the area, there is nothing to particularly recommend about the place.

It is just to show some animals for your young children, not more. There is also an area where you can tounch some animals like a goat, chicken, rabbit etc.

Outdated attractions for kids, partly remained from Soviet period, rumbling and lacking in security, most of them are for age 6+. Variety of ice-cream, coffee and snack kiosks is available around, don't expect any service standards.
The park also hosts a natural mineral water spring, but be aware that the water is rich with iron and not adopted for table use (not as tasty as bottled Lipetsk water, but definitely good for health).

The monument is in the very centre of Lipetsk, easily accessed by buses ##27,30, 330 (when you go to the newer side of Lipetsk, the so-called Novolipetsk - an industrial heart of the city), or the same buses plus 22, 322, 325 when you go from Novolipetsk to the centre of the city (in this case the stop is on the side of Nizhny Park with its Zoo and children attractions) but you'll have to cross the road. The square where the monument is erected is rather spacious and is also famous by its big Fountain which is especially spectacular at night with its light and music show. You'll make a good selfie with monument in the background.
They say the great Russian emperor Peter I made several visits to Lipetsk. Regular official city fests are celebrated here. And the most succesful schoolchildren get their passports here at the age of 14 from the regional authorities. There are several cafes and kiosks with soft drinks and juices and snacks nearby.
There's also another monument to Peter I from the 19th century in Lipetsk which is more modest and shows the development of iron-making plants in Lipetsk in the 18th century.

Bykhanov Cad is right outside our apartment window. Large, heavily wooded and constantly filled with families out enjoying the day. Moderate level of rides, etc for the little ones. Great place for people watchers. Everybody from runners, bikers, walkers to Babushkas pushing baby carriages. Very safe, we walk there daily with no issues.
