Tom, the owner, approach our table and began to explain to Nita her selections and how wine tasting worked. He explained that you had to have at least two drinks to capture the essence of the wine. The first taste was to get your mouth acclimated to the pH levels and acidity of the selection. The second was for the flavor and the taste. Tom checked back with us and we discuss with him our thoughts about the samplings that we tried. Then he began to explain about the hard ciders that they also carry, one was blueberry the other was pineapple. The pineapple hard cider was a hit with us. This location would make a great simple drink stop for a first date, special occasion, or wine time with some friends. The staff were already set up for their painting and wine tasting that began at 6 o’clock Thursday evenings.

We were guided by my son who took us on the Forest Service Road(via Globe Mountain Road and Brown Mountain Beach) to Wilson’s Creek Bridge and the ghost town of Mortimer N.C., we first stopped just over the scenic old one way bridge and trekwd down to the creek where my son and son in law tried to entice some trout left over from the delayed harvest . It was a beautiful and scenic cool mountain water flowing briskly over smooth river rocks and a great place to stop. Now on another 6 miles up the rock switchback road( 4 wheel drive ) to the head of a trail called “Hunt Fish Trail” which leads you 1 miles straight down to Hunt Fish Falls, a 50 foot beauty. The trail is described as moderate and my son and his wife took our 15 month old granddaughter down in their arms and I would say “it is all you want” in a moderate; remember you have to come back up! The area was not crowded as the drive of one hour up a rock switchback scares away most day hikers. The swimming hole at the bottom had 60 degree chilly clear water and another beautiful 20 foot spillover fall. This is truly a wilderness, with no cell service , when you have made it back up to the small parking area, treat yourself to a cold beer on the tailgate! Then on your drive out be sure to stop at Betsy’s old country store and fly shop; Friday is hot dog day! Shop and order your dogs all the way with a old school bottle of Sundrop or Nehi Orange. Bruce the owner may be there and be prepared to be engaged in a story or two! of course, say hello to Rocky the pure bred Rottweiler . You may want to check out the cabin for rent and the “trout pond”. Also learn the “ghost town history “ of Mortimer an old Cherokee summer hunting grounds and later a logging community destroyed by a flood in 1915. If you are feeling really adventurous , head up to the headwaters trail of Wilson’s Creek which is known as Rough Ridge Trail on the BRP, a popular trail that ends at 5000 feet. We completed that .06 miles up and back the next day so we went from the headwaters to the gorge . Trail is pretty easy, very rocky with awesome overlooks and spectacular views this is a “must do” trail and will take you about 90 minutes up and back.

My Family and I came here today for the first time. We love older homes and the history. This place is Beautiful! Mountains surrounding and yellow Daffodils everywhere. Our tour guide Kristen Robbins is outstanding! She is very knowledgeable and was able to answer our many questions. We toured inside the house. It's amazing how living was back then. There is a family cemetery on site . We really enjoyed ourselves here today. We easily spent 2 hours here. I recommend visiting here, especially if you love History.

I recently attended a Mark Lowry concert at the Broyhill Center . The parking was pretty easy. There were people directing you to the parking areas. The walk was not bad from the parking area. Our concert started at 7:30 and we arrived just before 7. The only negative about getting in the auditorium was everyone was funneled into the same entrance. This did cause a long line. There were restrooms in several different areas which was convenient. The restroom was clean. The seats in the auditorium were pretty comfortable and weren't too close together. We were in the lower level on the side and had pretty good seats. I don't know if there are any bad seats in the place considering the size of the auditorium. The acoustics were pretty good. Getting out after the concert was pretty easy. When you are getting out of the parking area back onto 321 there are no stoplights. If you are having to go South ,instead of trying to make a left turn I would recommend heading North and making a u-turn just up the road if traffic is heavy. Overall,we had a very good experience.

So glad we learned about this little oasis on TripAdvisor. It is a lovely little park, great for taking a walk with the bonus of the pond, structures and flowering trees and shrubs to photograph.
