La Libertad (Spanish pronunciation: [la liβeɾˈtað]) is a region in northwestern Peru. Formerly it was known as the Department of La Libertad (Departamento de La Libertad). It is bordered by the Lambayeque, Cajamarca and Amazonas regions on the north, the San Martín Region on the east, the Ancash and Huánuco regions on the south and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Its capital is Trujillo, which is the nation's third biggest city. The region's main port is Salaverry, one of Peru's largest ports. The name of the region is Spanish for "freedom" or "liberty"; it was named in honor of the Intendencia of Trujillo's proclaiming independence from Spain in 1820 and fighting for that.

My friend and I had a wonderful morning visiting the rescue shelter, meeting all the dogs, and walking with them! They are so loving and friendly! Ursula helped picked eight different dogs that we walked along the beach with. You can tell how appreciative they are of you and they are so excited to explore the grass and sand.

This archaeological zone, an excellent example of pre-Colombian America, once served as the capital of the Chimu Kingdom, which reached the height of its power in the 15th century before falling under the Incas.
Ancient ruins uncovered in Peru and very interesting. Unfortunately the government does not have the money to carry on with the excavation of these sites but that have great value

The Moche Route follows the most important cultures that settled in Northern Peru between the years 100 and 900 A.D. Important archaeological finds, such as the discovery of the lavish tomb of the Lord of Sipan, the Lady of Cao mummy and the mural paintings in the El Brujo Archaeological Complex, display the splendour of one of the most creative and successful cultures of the pre-Hispanic world.
A fabulous archeological site in northern Peru that is exceptional in many ways. Excellent interpretive display boards throughout assist visitors with understanding the history and significance of this remarkable site. One could easily spend a day here.

The plaza is a great place to people-watch, sit, read, talk to people, meet puppies and watch dance performances. There are marble benches to sit on(no criss-cross sitting allowed). There are vendors who sell food, bubbles and toys. We watched a presentation of La Marinera folk dance and it was amazing! See it on IG: @flip_in_philly

This historic site outside of Trujillo, is still being documented and the range of items in the Museum are beautifully presented. The ancient Moche civilization was very sophisticated and a visit to the this excavation site and Museum with a guide provides an insight about a past world. I strongly recommend organizing to go with a guide to get a deeper understanding. The Lady of Cao is a well preserved mummy and she is displayed with many of the artifacts that were found in her burial place. I was transfixed by her and all that I saw. We spent about 1.5 hours between the site and the small museum. And a note that in the gift shop were some of the nicest T-shirts with Moshe motifs that were stylish and nicely fabricated. Worth checking out.

Huanchaco is a good place for a short walk, and practice the surf. The wave is good for beginners and the water is not that deep.So it's alright for people to practice.

Yet another great museum in Trujillo. For me they have the perfect balance of quality exhibits, accompanied by succint information in English. The entry fee is part of the 10 soles ticket for 4 sites in Trujillo (Chan Chan, Arco Iris, Esmerelda). Really great museum where you can photograph everything. Allow 30 to 45 minutes... or an hour if this is your first museum in Trujillo.
