We weren't sure what to expect but the views from these hills are absolutely stunning! Special thanks to perfect weather and golden-red-green palette of autumn! Wonderful surprise, highly recommend.

After having hurried away from Ukko-Koli due to other people, and stopped by rather quickly at Akka-Koli, we finally sat down to enjoy the stunning view from Paha-Koli. Contrary to its name (paha means bad or evil), the heart begins to beat slower when taking in both height of the hills, tall trees, deep dive (do be careful, it probably gets slippery in or after rain!) down (well, upon that thought, I felt it skip a couple of beats), vast expanse of lake landscape, a few boats creating sharp lines across the water, small islands as covered in evergreen trees as everywhere around us, and of course the enormous sky above. Us Finns love our clean, beautiful nature, and this moment certainly grounded me whilst making me ponder the great, important questions of life. I’m grateful for having experienced Koli.

Welcome to Lieksa, Finland, to enjoy Karelian hospitality and watch and photograph local wildlife such as wolwerines, bears, wolves and birds.
We visited Erä Eero with my husband for a night in July. We had heard that this would be the best place in Finland to see wolverines, and we didn´t leave dissapointed. We got a small hide just for two of us close to the most beautiful bond in the middle of the wilderness. We saw several wolverines as well brown bears, ravens, wigeons and other birds. We went to the hide about 3 pm and left 8 am in the morning. Night was really cold, so be prepared. All the hides have beds and eco toilets, ours were tidy and pleasant to use. Eero himself is a great guy, I could have listened his stories forever. He also had a female employee (sorry cant remember her name) who was really friendly and competent also. I would warmly recommend this to anybody interested to see wild animals, even photographer or not. I personally took 4000 photos and videos during our stay, that might tell something. I am sure we will go again in future.
