Kiev Oblast or Kyiv Oblast (Ukrainian: Київська область, translit. Kyivs’ka oblast’; also referred to as Kyivshchyna – Ukrainian: Київщина) is an oblast (province) in central Ukraine. The administrative center of the oblast is the city of Kiev (Ukrainian: Київ, Kyiv), which also serves as the capital of Ukraine. Despite being located in the center of the Kiev Oblast, and hosting the governing bodies of the oblast, Kiev itself is a self-governing city with special status and not under oblast jurisdiction.

The sole fact you're standing 300 m away from the worst nuclear disaster in world history makes you creepy and scared what'd happen with mankind if things went little more wrong than they actually did. It's a place to remember, to learn and to pay your respects for those who gave their lives preventing a catastrophy on a bigger scale.

Came here as part of a group tour. Had never heard of the radar stations but did know about the wood pecking noises. We were guided around by our registered guide - you cannot visit without being part of a proper group and entering the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone officially and with a permit. The radars themselves are immense - there are two. I've never seen annoying like it in my life and having already visited a former nuclear missile launch centre in Ukraine this visit really hit home. You are not officially permitted to enter the buildings, however we were shown into some of the former computer rooms, the control room and to see some of the things left by the Soviets after they closed down and evacuated. The whole site is overgrown, ransacked and empty to a large degree, however it is brought to life by the guide. Well worth visiting.

Great place with a lot of historical, architectural, and natural content. Alexandra was our guide (highly recommended) who took us through the mystery of the park since its establishment and until now.

A day trip tour from Kiev costs around U$115,00 with lunch and personal dosimeter included, it departs usually at 8:00 AM and comes back to Kiev around 5:00 - 07:00 PM. Even on a day trip it´s sure to visit the amusement park with the iconic ferris wheel, Chernobyl village, Pripiat buildings including the swimming pool, enter the kindergarten, Get close to reactor 4, Duga radar and other places according the guide and group plans. It´s well worth your time and money. Try to avoid hot months which in Ukraine is june to august because no matter the temperature we have to wear clothes to cover all body, arms and legs. I went there in October and the weather was very pleasant.

Since mid-November 2014, Mezhyhirya has been a museum that displays the luxury of its former owner, former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych. The estate is located in the village of Novi Petrivtsi, 25 km from Kiev. Yanukovych lived in it from 2002 to 21 February 2014, when he abandoned the estate during the 2014 Ukrainian Revolution.
This place is about a 30 minute drive north of the city. It was essentially a private residence built for a corrupt president with stolen funds. The place is truly remarkable. It is also a gorgeous place to visit. We also hired the electric cart service to get a ride around the massive complex.

Park Peremohy is a massive 37 hectare park that contains something for everyone. There is a large lake designed as a slanted figure 8. There is an amphitheater, disco club, playgrounds, skateboard ramps, trails, and multiple monuments and sculptures: Brovarchan-Internationalists who Died in Afghanistan 1979-89, Monument to the Liberating Tankmen, Monument in Honor of Soldiers of the 2nd Air Army, Chernobyl Heroes, Monument Solar System, and Mermaid Sculpture. I would get a huge kebab, sit at the park and enjoy the scenery.

Nice place to relax after urban exploring in Pripyat or trip through Chernobyl exclusion zone. Light up some fragrant wax candles in front of icons of saints in this orthodox church
