September 24, 2021 Randal Brittian

The Czech Republic's most famed spa destination, Karlovy Vary - or Carlsbad - saw 200 spa houses sprout by the end of the 1500s. The springs in this idyllic, lush, peaceful Tepla valley are said to cure an almanac's worth of metabolic and gastric issues. Visitors still flock to this town of Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings. Five beautiful Colonnades straddle hot springs where visitors try aquatherapy and drink the mineral-rich water. The town also has a respected international film festival.

Vridelni kolonada

Reviewed By tk3232 - Sugar Land, United States

Built in the1970s with a stern communist-concrete aesthetic, the Hot Spring Colonnade (Vridelni kolonada) is nevertheless a good place to begin your visit to the springs of Karlovy Vary. Inside, vendor stands sell the two main items you need to fully experience the scene: a spa cups, in my opinion are the most beautiful in the town, and some wafer cookies Oplatki. Unfortunately, inside the glass atrium, where a natural, steaming geyser should spurts 20 feet into the air was still under reconstruction when we were in September in the town. Inside there are several sources with different temperatures and the hottest in the city at 72 degrees. Good to visit this colonnade in winter time or rainy days, this is a closed building on all sides. Outside colonnade there are wonderful souvenir shops, which also sell inexpensive Czech glass, like glasses, cups and also high-end shops with crystal, vases, chandeliers - the colonnade is located in the very center of the city. Enjoy you visit in beautiful city!
