This provides a real insight in to the lives of President Johnson and his immediate family. It reminds one that he was a real person as well as the President of the United States and the consummate politician. The exhibits are interesting and informative. Some, such as the bedroom where he had his final heart attack, are more than a little personal. We had an excellent tour guided by a knowledgeable docent.

The National Park is seperate to the State Park and both are worth visiting. The National Park enables you to visit Lyndon B Johnson's home - 'the white house of the south.' First you stop at the state park to get your parking permit. While there spend some time visiting the Sauer-Beckmann Farmstead, which is a living history farm (rangers/volunteers dress for the early 1900s and work the farm with all of the tools from back then). Once you have your parking permit, you then drive to the LBJ National Park. Along the drive there are several stops you can make, including LBJ's birthplace and graveyard. Ask the State Park rangers (where you get your parking pass) about the best time to get on a tour of the house. When we arrived a large tour bus had just headed down to the house for their tour and we were wisely told to wait an hour before heading down. We then drove straight to the house, bypassing the stops, made it straight on a house tour. After the house tour we enjoyed all of the stops on the way back out of the park. The house is interesting. I particularly enjoyed seeing the office area where LBJ worked during his presidency as well as his unusual collection of cars. The living and dining areas were closed for preservation work when we visited. We were, however, allowed to walk through these two areas so that we could see them, but the furniture was stored under covers. Interesting visit - especially for US history buffs.

An independently-owned and operated drive-thru safari zoo and nature preserve. If you are coming through on a daytrip, you can enjoy a guided tour and have personal encounters with several endangered and protected species of animals from Africa, Asia and even Australia. If you want to enjoy an extended outing with family and friends, there are also (5) onsite Safari Cabins located in a private area on the resort that you can rent out (and get a free tour included for paid cabin guests!). When you book your stay, you will also have access to several recreational areas, such as several small pools (one 12" wading pool for kids and another larger 4" deep pool with a waterfall), an outdoor kitchen with multiple wood-fired or gas grills, and pool table in the outdoor pavilion. There is also a hot tub for ages 16 & up. There is also private access to several bonus petting zoos for closer interaction, a stocked catch-and-release watering pond, and an outdoor playscape for the kids...right next to a firepit where you can cook up some hotdogs or make some 'smores! Overall, our commitment at the Exotic Resort Zoo is to maintain a healthy and nurturing environment to help our animals enjoy their lives, as they grow their herds. They enjoy being hand fed by all of you on daily guided tours and we hope you will enjoy their company as well. You are absolutely guaranteed to have a unique and personal hands-on experience when you visit us with all your family and friends!
Driven by this place a lot, but today took our 17 month old. This place is super clean and nicer than a lot of the zoos we have been to! Had a million animals, all super healthy! I would recommend getting more than 1 feed bucket if there aren’t a lot of people on your your. Highly recommended!!!

A 5,212-acre park that offers six miles of river frontage for camping, horseback riding, hiking, and off road bicycling.
Recently spent a day here hiking. Kind of a rainy day, so very few folks in the park. The falls are cool to see and walk down to. Really enjoyed the bird bluffs they built to sit and watch the birds eat. Hiked some trails along the river, very quiet and peaceful. Would come back here again.

LBJ grew up in a very modest home in Texas. It was interesting to see the exterior and interior of the house. The tour guide did a great job of describing life at the time and his experiences as a youth. It was and interesting stop for a brief visit.

Texas Hills Vineyard is located in the gentle hills of the picturesque Pedernales River Valley in the Texas Hill Country near Johnson City. A perfect location for growing quality grapes, the intense Texas sun by day and the cooler hill country nights gives our grapes an intense and quality flavor, ideal for wines. Texas grown grapes for Texas Wines. We focus on organic growing and new world style process of making wine. Our tasting room is made from rammed pressed earth nestled into the hillside overlooking our gorgeous 19 year old, 25 acre vineyard. Come out, enjoy the wine and the view with our friendly tasting room staff.
We really like the location and the great healthy vines that are actually used to make wines. The hosts are friendly and very helpful. The tasting room is average. The best wine is the Kick Butt Cab.
The drive out here is beautiful--if you take Fitzhugh from 290 west and follow it to Johnson City, you are in for a real treat. This is one of the most beautiful drives in Texas! The winery is located on the same road. If the weather is bad, avoid this drive because of the low water crossings. Look out for the bikers--they are on the road on the weekends.

This beautiful art gallery opened on the Courthouse Square in Johnson City in 2005, featuring a stunning collection of contemporary fine art by over 30 established Texas artists. The largest wine selection in the county offers wines by the taste, glass, bottle or case. Besides the main gallery there is a lovely tree lined, 1/3 acre creek-side sculpture garden. One of a kind artist made jewelry is also a specialty. Receptions are held from 1-4 every Second-Sunday (with live music), and every last-Saturday from 4-7.
0This is one of the many newly renovated stores in downtown Johnson City. The community and its retailers are taking the lead in re-doing and substantially improving the retail space in the city. When I was previously there 17 years ago, there were a lot of older stores often featuring less than high quality merchandise; however, things are much different now.
TASTE Wine Art is one of these old buildings with a brand new look. Paintings adorn the walls. Local and area artisans are highly featured. Everything is of high quality. While there, you can also sample various wines.
I was much impressed with this double retailing concept and congratulate the owners on their creativity.
