There are a number of wonderful features at this library -- creative programming for all ages; friendly, helpful staff; multiple copies of book club selections; and so on, but .....drum roll please...my new favourite is the curbside pick-up service for card holders. Yes, if you've reserved a book, DVD, or magazine and it is ready, you can pull into a designated space in the covered parking area, call the desk (the phone number is posted on a sign at the parking space) and a staff member will check it out and bring it to you. This is so helpful if you have limited mobility (recent knee surgery, anyone?), tiny children requiring a stroller and three hands, or if you simply can't find a place to park.

Grew up swimming at Rosewood and lesser known Ravine Drive. Both are decent beaches to cool off in and Rosewood is fairly big.

That peaceful stream in the slideshow is the Middle Fork of the Chicago River. The online hiking difficulty ratings for this site are "easy" and "moderate". The trail loops are both short and flat -- making for a perfect family outing. See my earlier reviews from May 27, 2016 and September 9, 2018 for more details.

Ravinia is a gem. The entertainers that are brought to the venue are varied and of course talented. The pavilion has no bad seats. Good sight lines throughout. The lawn is first come first served. Bring your own food and drinks and enjoy the lawn. If it’s rained bring an extra blanket to put on ground or tarp to keep space dry. Many bring candles to keep bugs away and create ambiance. We’ve never had a bug problem. Food and chairs can be easily purchased at Ravinia. Or bring your own. Parking in lots nearby are limited. But parking is available in lots 5-10 minutes away with free bus service. Or the Metra train stops at the park. On a nice night Ravinia is a gem.

Located just 25 miles north of Chicago, the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve presents a rare opportunity to visit one of the last remaining ravine and bluff ecosystems in the metropolitan region. The Illinois Nature Preserves Commission designated the Openlands Lakeshore Preserve as an Illinois Nature Preserve in 2013, recognizing the quality of our restoration efforts. For more information, please visit Openlands.org.
We are so lucky to have this beautiful natural resource in our backyard! About a mile and half of walkway along Lake Michigan. Currently there is a an unpaved portion of "prairie" walk in the middle but I have heard from a reliable source that they have finally obtained approval to connect the two completed portions. We had no idea that this walk was being developed and were so happy when it popped up a couple of years ago. Lovely place to walk your dog, go for a run or ride your bike.
