This wonderful little pub is an end of terrace house, which can be easily overlooked. It's only open at the weekend (Fri- Sun + bank holiday Mondays) so is somewhere to look forward to going. This cozy, gem serves bears brewed on the premises, plus a range of guest beers from further afield, to suit everyones tastes (hand pulled & bottled). They also have at least 3 ciders on + wine and mead. They have live, acoustic music sessions on a regular basis, to spice up the already great atmosphere. The food is limited (rolls/cobs) but made with quality ingredients. Occasionally, a delicious spread is laid on by the lovely landlord and lady, or a patron. The slightly larger of the 2 rooms, has a fire to warm you on a cold day and there are 2 outside coutyards (1 covered) to spread out into, in better weather. It can be like playing sardines at times, but this just adds to the 'craic'!

Shipley park is our local green space and we are so incredibly grateful for it. Throughout lockdown it has been out safe place to have some fresh air. I have been visiting Shipley park for over 20 years.

From Monday June 15th 10:30am until 4pm , 7 days a week. Knowing Heanor Antiques Centre, I will be able to find a great garden chair and all the other home and garden items that seem to be sold out on the internet and in essential stores. Pleased to see the owner has set out 2 metre markers and structures/setups to keep us all safe. Cafe won’t be open yet but at least the large cafe door may be ajar, to give additional ventilation of flowing fresh air. Looking forward to buying unique or collectable jewellery and searching for car boot priced bargains. I found the photo’s of the covid-19 compliant installations on the Heanor Antiques Centre, Facebook page.

The Queen's Head at Marlpool near Heanor, a former traditional Shipstones pub, recently reopened following a tasteful refurbishment. A beautiful five-room Victorian alehouse with traditional clean interior, tiled floors, cast-iron tables, padded stools around old barrel tables, two open fires and wood burner. Recently refurbished to a very good standard the pub is very much traditional at it's heart but with some interesting and modern quirkiness to it. Up to 20 well kept ales, including 6 handpulls on the bar serving the likes of Castle Rock, Oakham and Thornbridge with many served direct from the cellar. The pub also serves anywhere up to 28 traditional ciders and half a dozen perries also direct from the cellar. A good range of wines and spirits is available too with a particularly noteworthy selection of single malt whiskies. Some snacky foods are available including Pipers crisps in an assortment of flavours. No cask ale haven is complete without a fine selection of daily papers and The Queen's Head doesn't disappoint. Worth noting is the fact that children and dogs are both welcome, a rarity in most pubs of this calibre. A delightful back terrace with an open-fronted log-fire provides the smoking solution as well as some shaded outdoor seating and further outdoor seating can be found at the front of the pub. Open all day. Free WiFi available.

Dinky Dinos in Heanor is easily the best softplay that we have been to in Derby and my daughter absolutely loves it here. No only is it clean but it offers a wide array of different activities for children of different ages at a reasonably price. The cafe also offers a large selection of food and drinks and decent prizes. Although not all areas and toys are available due to COVID-19, there is usually a small softplay area for under 3s, a larger softplay frame for older children, a disco room, a football court, an area with plastic cars and a small track, trampoline area and another play area full of toys. There really is something for every child to enjoy. I cannot recommend Dinkys enough.
