Mennonite Heritage Center

The Mennonite Heritage Center tells the story of the oldest continuous Mennonite community in America. Over 12,000 items are preserved and used to tell the local and Mennonite stories. The current exhibit features the 18th century immigrant experience as well as stories of recent arrivals. The Center houses a genealogical center and research library, archives, a permanent exhibit open 5 days/week, a gift shop, and a fraktur gallery (an early form of ornamental writing and decoration). Rotating art and history exhibits fill two other galleries. A 30 minute introductory video is provided for visitors. A list of available traditional arts workshops, bus tours, and other events is available on the web site. The annual Apple Butter Frolic is held the first Saturday of each October and is a staple of local history, PA Dutch food, and agricultural life. The Christmas season brings the fine craft sale and Christmas market with work by select artisans. The Whack and Roll croquet tournament brings local nonprofits together each spring.

This is an excellent source of information for anything Pennsylvania Mennonite related, or really, for local history. The displays are well put together and all the volunteers friendly and knowledgeable. There are also archives available for more extensive research. Great used book sale near the end of the summer, too!

Seating is tight and the theater is very drafty, particularly if you are seated near a door. However, the theater is quaint and inviting as well as intimate. Shows are moderately priced and affordable for most everyone. Drinks and food are available before the show but expect to pay a premium. Seats are ok, a bit uncomfortable but doable. Great venue to enjoy a concert or event with friends without breaking the bank

Christmas season is a great time to visit Pennypacker Mills. Beautifully decorated along with a whole house filled with the belongings of Samuel Pennypacker and his family. We had a docent who shared her knowledge of the home and the family and she was so informative and interesting, you could just picture them living here. The grounds are beautiful and we will be back to see it again in the spring.

Peaceful and serene to the max!

Spring Mountain

Reviewed By Lauren L - Margate City, New Jersey

I've been snowboarding for 20ish years. Snowboarding to me is a fun hobby, surfing is my real passion - so needless to say I just enjoy getting out in the fresh air and going up and down a mountain. I'm low maintenance- I don't need 40 runs or 16 chair lifts. This mountain is perfect for a snowboarder like me. My husband and I went on a 67 degree February day (I also love warm weather - late season boarding). My husband is an excellent skier but this was his first time snowboarding. Lift tickets were $40 (CHEAP) and they are often on Groupon. We used two chair lifts and did the same few runs for about 4 hours. It's two hours from our house (by the Atlantic City area), whereas the next closest mountain is in north jersey - at about almost three hours or the Poconos, which is 3+. We stayed in valley forge and the mountain was 30 mins from there, so about less than an hour from philly depending on traffic. It's old. It's not fancy. But if you just want to get out and go down a mountain that isn't overly packed on weekends- you can't beat this place. Never crowded (I've been there a few times) - even on weekends. Chair lift wait is under 2 mins.

Painting With A Twist

Reviewed By Brockport95 - Riverview, Florida, United States

First time at Painting with A Twist. I have heard of similar concepts in Tampa, Florida. The area where we painted was small and tight; not a lot of room to move around. Company brought in wine, bottled water, fruit and cheese. The instructor was extremely friendly and a lot of fun. After painting, there was a bigger room in the back and we took some group photos. It was a one time thing for me.
