Hollywood beckons to tourists who long for a brush with Tinseltown glamor. Tour movie studios, slip your hands into the famous prints at the TCL Chinese Theatre, or indulge in a celeb sighting at one of LA’s white-hot nightspots. Spot your favorite star while shopping at The Grove, or forget all about the famous eye candy as you take in the iconic artwork at The Getty Center. For a different type of star-gazing, peek through the telescopes at the Griffith Observatory.

Just a few miles from the LA Waterfront, the beautiful Banning Mansion is a City, State and National Historic Landmark. The gracious, stately Victorian residence and surrounding grounds beckon visitors to experience life as it was in the mid-to late-nineteenth-century Los Angeles and meet one of the area's most influential and visionary residents of the time, General Phineas Banning. The Banning Residence has lovingly been maintained and restored and is today considered the finest existing example of residential Greek Revival architecture in Southern California. The Banning property also includes the Howard Rose Garden, a sanctuary of modern day roses as well as antique varietals that would have been grown in Banning's day.
Just visited the Banning Museum to experience it beautiful 100 year old blooming Wisteria and garden and wasn't disappointed. If you love gardening you will enjoy the lovely Howard Rose Garden. The garden has both modern and antique roses popular the in Victorian times. Wish I could have submitted some photos from it. As they say a picture is worth a thousands words. The museum is closed for now because of the virus crisis. But you need to but it on your bucket list to visit in the near future.

Both children and adults will enjoy viewing sea creatures of the Pacific in their natural habitats here.
My 6-year-old granddaughter loves visiting this aquarium in San Pedro. The highlight of the visit is always the Tidal Touch Pool! The exhibits of various sea creatures and the real skeletons of huge sea animals command attention.

My husband is a Civil War buff and this museum was a real treat. Being from the east coast we had no knowledge of the Civil War in California. The guide for our 90 minute tour was entertaining and knowledgeable. This site was one of the highlights of our vacation.

We really enjoyed our afternoon exploring the tidepools and running from the waves. There are two parts of the beach there's the rocky shoreline where you can access the tide pools at low tide and if you'd like to climb down some rocks there is a sandy beach as well. You do need to pay for parking and the cost of parking depends on the time of day. The parking kiosks do take credit cards. If you are willing to hike down the hill then you can park for free on the street. The beach area is very exposed with very little shade so if you are planning to spend the day here you may want to bring a canopy or umbrella. There are also not a lot of services so you'll want to pack in/pack out. Unfortunately this is not a nature preserve area and there are those who will come through the tidepools picking up animals and killing as bait or collecting them. In the tidepools there are some deeper areas and kids will be able to snorkel around. It's not super deep but it is deep enough that you can swim around a little bit. When we were there there was a lifeguard on duty. I'd suggest that you bring water shoes for the tidepools and the rocky beach in general. And please remember to clean up after yourselves!! There was quite a bit of trash and beach toys around, hopefully we can protect and preserve this beautiful place. It's a local gem!

A huge bell given to the US as a bi-centennial gift and as a commemoration of veterans of the Korean War
Wonderful gift from the people of South Korea for our bicentennial celebration. Great grassy park for kite flying, baketball, picnics, and SUNSET watching with about 250° of Pacific Ocean views.
