The largest city in China is also its most cosmopolitan, offering visitors a chance to experience the past, present, and future all at once. The Huangpu River splits Shanghai into two districts: Pudong and Puxi. The Pudong skyline looks like it was ripped from the Jetsons, with the bulbous Oriental Pearl TV and Radio Tower looking a bit like a two headed lollipop. On the Puxi side, you can walk the Bund riverside district to get a taste of old Shanghai.

Tou-Se-We, literally meaning in Chinese “earth piled hills bay,” thus named because of its location at the southern end of Xujiahui connecting the bay of Zhaojiabang Creek where piles of earth formed hills as a result of river-way dredging. The original Tou-Se-We Orphanage was built in 1864 by the Jesuits in Shanghai, and was closed in 1960, lasting nearly a century.

I went to the Hongqiao Pearl Market specifically looking for pearls. Before I went, I read the trip advisor reviews. Based upon the reviews, I decided to give Catherine's a visit. Catherine's shop is near the escalator on the second floor. Catherine did not disappoint me. She was knowledgeable and helpful. We sat down and discussed various pearl strands and the costs. She was even polite when we negotiated the price. Would go back and buy from Catherine again.

Catholicism was introduced by Xu Guangqi and his friend in 1607, and Xujiahui was selected as the center of religion. As the first church in Western style, St.lgnatius Cathedral had been completed for 6 years since 1904, with a capacity of over 3000 people. Its gothic double spires echo the twin towers on Grand Gateway, which has attracted people a lot.
We walked here from Xujiahui metro station. Took us about 10 mins. This church is also known as St Ignatius Cathedral. Quite big and beautiful. Unfortunately there was no mass when we visited. On the left side of the cathedral is a grotto with Mother Mary's statue.
