This is truly a fascinating place for all those people wondering what a pagan world may have looked like. More than a hundred rock-cut caves out of almost 750 still stand, having survived both numerous attacks from invaders and earthquakes with the latter hitting this area hard in 1920. Wind blows here often. In fact, this is why the only wind electric station of the country has been recently built nearby. Overall, it's a great feeling being up there, although to understand various places in this cave town one may need to read information in advance or enjoy services of a guide or audio-guide. It takes approximately an hour to walk up and see everything around. If a visitor follows signs, especially those of entrance and exit, he would hardly get lost. A tunnel leading down to Mtkvari on the way back is noteworthy. And across a cafe there is a hall with some discovered artifacts, besides, a documentary is shown with English subtitles. Thumbs up!

This monument is dedicated to those brothers who almost four hundred years ago went to fight the invading Persian troops and all perished. Not surprising this monument stands near the fort where many more people defending it sacrificed their lives in different battles. Looking at these figures, one may want to ponder about the essence of war and peace. Based on blockbuster movies some youngsters grow up thinking in a battle you shoot at enemies, instantly killing them, while they all fail to hit you. Reality, though, is shown here in an impressive way. To the sculptor who has created this monument, well done indeed!

the place has great potential as a touristic site... an ancient castle, a big one with big history.. perfect placement with best views ever.. in the very center of Gori city.. on top of ancient districts just as greek acropolis and plaka.. many tourists go to visit the site every year but there is very little improvement arround. a must see place nevertheless.. it is a heart of Georgia, a central castle for centuries

We had hired a car to travel here to visit the Stalin Museum and parked just around the corner. The museum is located in the centre of the town at the end of a park. The museum building itself is ornate and doesn't really look Soviet other than the fact it's fairly dominating. In front of the main building is the house Stalin grew up in, which has been relocated here and covered - it looked as though you can't access this. Also by the side of the museum is Stalin's personal train carriage which you can look at as part of the museum tour - we arrived a bit late and this was locked when we were there. The museum itself has a ticket office and small gift shop. We bought tickets and headed up the stairs to wander around the exhibits. As another reviewer has said, it's a museum within a museum, as it's not changed since Soviet times. A lot of the information is in Russian, so we didn't take that long in there. The fascinating part for me was seeing the propaganda and how this had been presented and now preserved. It was also interesting to see the different nationalities that were there visiting and some of the conversations they were having. It's a pretty unique experience and worth checking out.
