This is a Fun & Free museum within the Visitors Center & the Chamber of Commerce. The Old Jail upstairs was creepy but very interesting! The guide was friendly and informative. After seeing the list of Reasons to be thrown in Jail... we were not sure if we would get to leave! Enjoyed

State park known for its lush plant life and excellent bird watching.
Plenty of hiking available at state park. The trails are pretty flat and took the longest combination of trails I believe (ottine swamp, mesquite flats trail, san marcos river trail). Did almost step onto a snake on the san marcos river trail.
Pretty good state park with some good hiking.

This is a small, but packed Museum. It is free, donations encouraged. One side is a display of artifacts, curated and labeled nicely. Early Texas history, with pieces from the settling of Gonzales to the present focused on and around Gonzales.
The other side is all Texas Revolution and the battle that occurred at Gonzales, which set off the armed conflict, igniting years of brewing sentiment. There are some nice items and displays as well as a gift shop.
This stop is well worth a look if you are in town or just passing through. It will take you an hour or so, depending on how many of the display cards you read carefully. A nice break during a road trip or a stop along the history trail in Gonzales. There is a park next door, so let the kids run before strapping them back in the car.
Fountain in front of the museum, amphitheater behind. This whole place is a testament to the civic mindedness of Texas at the centennial of the revolution.

Wow is all I can say. How did a small town like Gonzales rate such wonderful food? The chicken wings are huge and savory. Try the cheese bread.....with every bite the yeast flavor melts your soul. The pizzas are magnificent. I have taken friends there from big cities and they are still raving about it. Now they have a small kitchen, so during peak hours your food will be a bit of a wait. But I promise you it will be worth every second. They have a full bar as well. The wait staff is not huge but they work their rear ends off keeping you happy. Go for a good time and the best pizza you have ever eaten. Sorry Rogers and Pizza Hut.....you don't even rate at all compared to this place!

We are so proud to show our allegiance to the United States with our large waving American Flag on the Texas Heroes Square! We made history here years ago and again lately with our American and our Texas and our Come and Take It flags. We are proud to be a part of the making of Texas. The Texas Heroes Square has a beautiful monument dedicated to those who fought for our freedom. We are still loving all those men and women who fight for our freedom. Come see it at Come and Take It, first weekend in October every year.

Gonzales is a tiny town, but has done an excellent job in creating a venue for events of all sorts.
With the founder of the town's family, Green DeWitt and their memorials, overlooking the area, there are horse barns, arena, and rv areas and a pavillion. Thank Mr. J.B. Wells for the donation of the land and the town for this venue and 169 acre park. More information at their website:

What a surprise. We were tired and just looking for a decent place to spend the night in our RV that wouldn't cost us an arm and a leg! What a great surprise to happen along the Gonzales Parks and Recreation Dept RV Park at Independence Park.
We camped in Site 6 and had full hook-ups (water, electric, and sewer) No Cable or Wi-Fi, but no problem. Our antenna picked up stations from San Antonio so we had great reception and plenty of channels to watch. I had my smartphone that tethered to our computer and iPad, so we were all set.
This was one of the quietest RV Parks we have ever been to! It was wonderful and we had the Guadalupe River flowing right next to the campsite, so it was lovely.
All this for only $25! I would definitely recommend and I will be back!

This theatre is a great addition to our small town. It has been here FOREVER however, it has not always been open. It is now and it's awesome. It has first run movies and most last a week or longer. It is now open every day and has a couple of 4pm showings for the matinee price. The seats are comfortable and the screens and sound are great. If I can see a movie here in town instead of going out of town that's my choice. It's $7 for adults to get in and $5 I think for matinee and kids. They usually have a movie kids and see and a more adult movie...two screens. The popcorn is GREAT and they have sodas, hot dogs, candy and a couple of other things. They donate a number of tickets in town to silent auctions for benefits so they are good to the community! Says they have new owners! Welcome new owners. Keep up the good work!

A wonderful collection of stained-glass windows and old wooden doors as well as many other items.
Lots of inventory. Suzanne is a sweetheart. She's been doing this a good while and knows her stuff. They have doors, hardware, furniture, light fixtures, bathroom fixtures, reclaimed wood, etc. do check this place out when your in Gonzales if you love old things especially is you're a DIYer on you own home.

The local family who owns this property has taken great efforts to make it a beautiful place to see. The old house there is amazing and is a great place for photos, engagement, etc. The property is quiet and right off 90A so it is easy to find. A great piece of Texas history. I was given a tiny tree grown from an acorn from this tree and grew it large enough and recently gave it to my grandson. Hopefully he will grow tall along with it. He is a descendant of family who was also well known in Texas history...now he has a tree of history as well. Worth taking a few minutes to see this amazing place.
