Golmud (Chinese: 格尔木; pinyin: Gé'ěrmù; Tibetan: ན་གོར་མོ།, Wylie: Na-gor-mo), also transliterated as Ge'ermu, Geermu or Nagormo, is a county-level city in Qinghai Province, China, bordering Xinjiang to the northwest and the Tibet Autonomous Region to the southwest. Administrated by Haixi Mongol and Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, it is the third largest city in Qinghai and the third largest in the Tibetan Plateau (after Xining and Lhasa). The population is now about 205,700. The name of the city derives from Mongolian, and its literal meaning in the local Western Mongolian is "Rivers".

Hoh Xil, to some extent, is considered to be the last piece of pure land on the earth. Numerous people are shocked by the spectacular raw beauty when they set foot on the land for the first time.
Located in Gansu Province, Hoh Xil is not only a famous scenic spot but one of the biggestnaturalreservesin China. From April toJune, other placesare warm and hot, while Hoh Xil is still snowy and cold. It is extremely hard for people to survive in this barren land. However, this is a heaven for wild animals, including the Tibetan antelopes and wild yaks. Also, bald eagles fly freely in the sky.
I feel very lucky to have the golden chance of visiting there in person. We took a self-drive tour aroundHoh Xil, which is a virtually unspoiled region without any contamination. The sky is blue as well as clear, with clouds moving slowly towards the horizon. The air is fresh and there is no noise. Having taken a deep breath, the whole world spreading before me seems to quiet down.A wide variety of wildlife can be seen there. The altitude being high, I felt I need only reach out totouch the sky. We greeted tothe locals, too. They appear to be content with their lives.Besides, there are many rivers and lakes, in which some rare fishes live. The water tastes sweet. Human settlements and wild animals are highly dependent on the spring water and snowmelt in nearby Mountains.
If you want to go there, it is strongly advised that you bring food yourselves because there areno markets and restaurants. At last, please remember that it is important not to leave any trash behind.

White Beaches of salt, amazing salt formations and salt flowers guarantee to intrigue any traveller. When the sun is shining the color of the water varies from turquoise blue to lime green. When we were there the water so so calm and the réflexions on the water were amazing. Only an hour drive from Golmud and definitely worth it.

I was expecting to drive to the top of the mountain and to be able to admire the views below, but this wasn't the case. The drive from Golmud took us about three hours but the views along the way were so extremely varied. We saw deep mountain gorges with turquoise colored waters, glacier topped Mountains, herds of sheep and even a Tao Temple that we were able to visit. Arriving at the top at an elevation of about 4,800 meters we found ourselves on a flat plateau, we could still admire mountain peaks in the distance but the beauty in this trip were the views along the way. II recommend you bring an oxygen canister but we didn't need it....just a precaution.

Chaidamu Basin is a huge area in the western part of the Qinghai. We drove through this area on our way to Golmud and also on our way to Chaka Salt Lake. This area is very dry and there's not much going on here. The elevation is significantly lower than most areas we had visited in Qinghai. We did visit an area that grew a lot of goji berries. Apparently goji berry shrubs like to grow in such dry desert like environment. Aside from the typical red goji berries that we see most time, they also grow the black goji berry, which costs more than the red goji berries.

Our driver took us to this twin lake area on our way to Golmud. The lakes are fine, very serene! The surrounding areas are more beautiful! There are a lot of mosquitos in the area so be aware when you go out to enjoy the beautiful view!
