We made a boat trip from Gmunden to Traunkirchen and could admire this unique place during hours. The Traunstein is impressive and the (after COVID-lockdown) very quiet lake was highly appreciated.

I was looking for the "Schlosshotel Orth" which I know from the TV. It's a really nice place you should visit. It's not a hotel in real live but an event location.

Visited in October 2019. The path has recently reopened having had some restoration work. The start of the walk recommends having some climbing equipment. This might be relevant in poor weather i.e. ice/snow. Otherwise walking shoes and boots will suffice. It's a steady exciting walk (with some challenging parts if you haven't climbed before) with a bit of climbing and hanging on so as not to fall in the lake (the drop varies from 0 to 60 feet. Only suitable with children if well supervised. If you fall, it could be onto sharp rocks or into the lake (this part of the lake is very dangerous due to the underwater current). Great fun and fabulous views across the lake.

This lake is very nice and can be reached quite easily with a short walk (or hike). The lake is nicely nestled into the mountains surrounding it. Can get quite busy.

The treetop walk was recommended by a friend. The tour started with the grünberg cable car. On the mountain station there was a very nice restaurant. Lunch was very moody in the old mountain hut because great rain began to come down. Although there was dense fog we enjoyed the treetop walk very much.

Went up on the Bahn to the top of Gruenberg right from Gmunden. Huge hiking area with many different levels of difficulty, Lovely views, great restaurant on top as well as a summer Rodelbahn, great fun for the whole family and a new observation deck and walk on “top of the trees”. Careful though to not spend all your money trying out all the exciting sights (there is a combination ticket for the gondola and the top of the trees walk.)

From Gmunden it's an easy 10 min ride on the recently renovated Grünberg-Seilbahn to get to Grünberg. There you have a restaurant, a summer rodelbahn, the Baumwipfelpfad and the start of multiple walks. The Baumwipfelpfad is a 1.4 km walk at treetop level, with in the end the spectacular 39m high tower which gives you great views over the Traunsee and surrounding mountains. You can buy a combined cable car + walk ticket for 27 euro (17/22 euro for children) at the cable car station, or buy a separate ticket at the start of the walk. At different locations on the boardwalk, there are fun challenges for kids but also information boards over the local flora and fauna. Once on the top, you can decide to walk down the same route or use the slide in the middle (2 euro extra, <6y children not allowed).
