Punterwerf Wildeboer traditional boat rental In Giethoorn North, one of the last two surviving ‘punter’ boatyards of Giethoorn can be found. The love for these handcrafted oak-wood boats, handed down from generation to generation. Our boats are built with extra width and higher sides, creating more room within the boat and making it safer. In that way the boat takes in less water while on the lakes and when the wind picks up. The boats are equipped with roomy chests for you to sit on and stow away your possessions, placed opposite each other for ease of conversation! We’re happy to provide you with cushions, and on nippy days we’ll give you a nice warm fleece blanket to keep you snug and comfortable. The ‘punter’ can seat 8 people and being built of oak it is very stable in the water. Clearly – the perfect boat to rent! Experience the Weerribben-Wieden National Park, a breath-taking area full of wildlife, from the water. This boat costs €25 per hour, or € 125 per day (8 ours)

Went on a Sunday morning. This is about an hour’s drive from Amsterdam. Hired a self driving boat for 2 hours and drove in mad traffic through the canals till we reached the lake where it was bliss. The whole boat ride was very scenic and you can either go around this town in a boat or walk around or cycle around but with a boat you can also go on the lake which is very good

Start your visit to Giethoorn in Museum Giethoorn 't Olde Maat Uus! The museum is located in an original historical farmhouse. It is the only place in Giethoorn where you can see how people lived more than 100 years ago and how they earned a meagre living by cutting peat and building small boats (‘punters’).
Nice small museum which gives you all the information about the past of the area. Amazing to know that the landscape as it is today was man-made. All the canals were dug out by workers who cut turf which was used as fuel for fire, for heating and cooking. The museum tells you all about how it came about, how the people used to live and what life was like hundreds of years ago. Very educational and interesting. Nice for the whole family. A visit will take you 1-2 hours.
