Haystack Rock

Haystack Rock is a unique 235 feet monolith that attracts wildlife and tourists alike and is part of the Oregon Coast’s geological history, formed millions of year ago by lava flows that created many of the dramatic capes and headlands along the coast. Haystack Rock is protected under U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service as a seabird nesting colony and it is part of the Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge and is a State protected Marine Garden. The Rock is home to nesting seabirds in the summer and marine invertebrates all year. Tidepool seekers are beckoned by its wonders every day. The Haystack Rock Awareness Program (HRAP) is a stewardship and environmental educational program whose mission is to protect, through education, the intertidal and bird ecology of the Marine Garden and Oregon Islands National Wildlife Refuge at Haystack Rock. HRAP offers an extensive interpretive program on the beach during the spring and summer months around low tide.

I would highly recommend this area it was absolutely gorgeous. I had no idea that they actually had a beach in Oregon. I thought most of the coastline was just Rocky. But Haystack rock the whole area Cannon Beach is absolutely gorgeous wide and long beaches to do plenty of walking on. The sun is out finally after two days, it’s been raining hard! it will be an awesome place to watch the sunset. I WOULD return.

Took two boys (11&13) for a zipline adventure, and loved it! The guides were great, the different ziplines varied, and the forest was beautiful! Equipment and facilities were very well-maintained, with lots of attention to safety. Overall a great experience; I highly recommend it!

They also gave a nice dining area and the food (and drink) menus looked good—we drove a few hours to get there and ate lunch somewhere else first, but eating there looked like a great option. Bring a change of clothes if you might go for the “dip in the lake” option on one of the zips :-)

The Promenade is 1.5 mile each way--so this makes for an excellent, scenic and enjoyable run in the mornings during my stay here. The tourists are really out in force over the weekend--but otherwise very relaxing.

We stopped in here while camping at Fort Stevens State Park. What do you do when it is raining like crazy and you are tired of being shut in. You go to Fultano's!!
The bowling ally is nice and clean and up to date. The big screen TV's are a bonus. We bowled 5 games and then had Pizza for dinner. It was delicious. The crust was a perfect crunchy and the toppings were fresh. It was just great pizza and a fun time. Thank you Fultano's. We need a Fultano's in our town. (Independence Oregon). Please!!

The trail from Ecola Point - over the river and through the woods to Indian Beach - is closed due to an ongoing earth-slide. But, it is open to the slide and is a wonderful up-down trail on the edge of the Ecola bluff. Wow! Wonderful views in every direction.

Arcadia Beach State Recreation Area

Reviewed By NTSU1975 - Georgetown, Texas

This was the farthest north on our beach travels before heading back to Portland and our flight home. Though not the favorite of our stops, this was a great beach experience. Tide was out and many people were working their way along the rock outcroppings as they strolled the beach. I am assuming that the northern beaches in Oregon get more traffic from the Portland area as we found the beaches farther south to be less crowded and less traffic in the beach towns.

Great family hike along the Tillamook Trail connecting Indian Beach and Ecola State Park. This was an easy hike for our family of 4 and dog. Our youngest is 8 and had no issues. Highly recommended for a family outing that ends or begins at the beach. Indian Beach is a beautiful beach!
