Spirit Hills crafts One of a Kind honey wines that are hailed in Asia, Europe and North America. The winery itself is a little charming gem in the Foothills. The Rocky Mountain Foothills are one of the most pristine and breathtaking places on earth and in summer blanketed with wildflowers. This is where the Spirit Hills bees gather their nectar, which they turn into delicious aromatic honey of the highest quality. In turn the Bonjean family, which hails from generations of French winemakers, transform this honey in perfect symbiosis with local flower petals and berries into the most exclusive and seducing honey wines with a true Alberta character and identity. The winery itself integrates design elements from Alberta’s pioneering west and the Bonjean’s Europeaan heritage. The winery is open for tours and tastings from April until the end of October. Stop in for a tasting, or book a tour and get an education about bees, honey and the crafting of this one of a kind honey wine.
Great tour and tasting - nice to get out of the city and visit this winery. Amber was our host and was excellent and very informative. The wine is all good! We now appreciate how it's made and all the work that goes into it. Will be back in the summer.

Stone Wood & Steel - traditional blacksmithing experiences in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies Located on an organic garlic farm bordering Kananaskis Country in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies, Stone Wood & Steel is a family-run blacksmith studio offering hands-on experiences to forge contemporary and traditional pieces with steel and fire.
My class was a gift from my wife - introduction to blacksmithing. I can honestly say it was a fantastic experience, the whole day. James is a super nice guy, very personable and makes you feel at ease right away. His instructional style was spot on. He imparts the skills on you then let's you work. He's there if you need him, but if you just want to get on and express yourself, then away you go. I was expecting something quite restrictive and formulated, but James encourages you to do as much as you like - no rigid syllabus - just work as long much as you like on the project you want to do. He's there to help, guide and encourage, but not to interfere. Perfect class in my mind.

Note: Brown-Lowery is a DAY-USE ONLY park. Hiking: The park has views of the front ranges of the Rocky Mountains and lots of wildlife, trees, wildflowers and fungi along 12 km of rustic trails. Wildlife Viewing: Many species of wildlife including deer, moose, elk, black bears, lynx, cougar, squirrels and birds live here.
We visited this excellent little park recently. There were lots of interesting wildflowers, birds and mushrooms around. The west-looking Eagleview Lookout is not to be missed! But we also like to get some exercise and usually walk the trails that go around the permitter of the park, but that's only 7 km's. This last visit, we did two of the criss-cross trails, and our GPS said we walked around 11 km's - not bad! This is a lovely four-season park, so if you live in Calgary and want something new, this this one out. For visitors, we'd say it's a lovely park, but check it out only if you are here for a good while, or you really don't want to drive all the way to the mountains - it's only about half an hour's drive from the city's edge.

The Leighton Art Centre was established by Barbara Leighton in 1970 and was incorporated as a society in 1974. Today the LAC is open to the public and offers a wide range of programming including Art & Nature programs for schools, Art to GO! programs, Professional Development Days for Teachers and Support Staff, Summer Camps, Adult Workshops, Professional Artist Workshops, Contemporary Art Exhibitions, rotating Museum Displays, Art Sales and Special Events.
Worth the weekend drive for the art, the views, the giftshop, and just poking around. I really enjoyed my weekend visit and viewing the different art, even if I couldn't afford 99% of it. It was a pleasure to see different artists' take on the Canadian nature. Some truly beautiful art depicting Alberta's wonderous mountains, prairies, and open skies. I would highly recommend this gallery to international travellors too,, and anyone who likes art, nature, and the spirit of creativity. The colours of the paintings, the vibe, the natural space, and building were just such a treat after a long period of isolation. A lovely destination. There are two ways of accessing, so check your map and plan your route. I wouldn't recommend this as a destination for families with lots of children. Maybe a parent with a child that's into art is better. I would visit again, in spring and fall. It's location is like finding treasure in the middle of the rolling hills. You can easily spend an hour here, or more, depending on what you like. Easily half a day, with the drive, exploring, looking athe building, the paintings, the other art, the gardens, etc.

Welcome to Granary Road! Where friends & families come together to enjoy the good things in life. Granary Road has something for everyone in your family. An intimate and charismatic PUBLIC MARKET with an eclectic mix of best-of-class vendors from fresh organic produce to artisan cheese, from an award-winning butcher to a world class chocolatier, from a top shelf wine store to a cut above charcuterie creator! The Granary Road high energy ACTIVE LEARNING PARK is set on 36 acres with 3 kilometers of trails connecting 11 exhibits each featuring imaginative play areas in the themes of animals, insects and agriculture!
This interactive educational children’s park is amazing! While the prices seemed a bit high, the adventure playground was worth it! Carefully constructed and well maintained, this park allows children to play, explore and learn. The entire route is about 3 km so wear walking shoes! Allow 3-5 hours for the 6-10 year old set to thoroughly explore! Clean washrooms are spaced throughout the park and there are several picnic areas where you can enjoy your family picnic! Our only complaint, the wood shaving around each play structure!
