This historical site marks the first battlefield of the American French and Indian War.
A forgotten battle in a forgotten war. A reminder that a future great leader made a basic tactical mistake at age 22.
Philosophizing aside, this visitor center has well done displays, from wampum belts (who knew that they could be "read" in various native languages?) to battlefield artifacts to dioramas of the National Road.
The short video is interesting. Walk out to the battlefield meadow to see-- and feel --why it was such a poor choice but nonetheless a necessity...
Stop by if you have time at the Washington Tavern (access from Visitor Center parking road)

Located at the southern reaches of the Laurel Ridge, Ohiopyle State Park encompasses approximately 20,500 acres of rugged natural beauty and serves as the gateway to the Laurel Highlands. Close to major metropolitan areas and offering vast choices of activities. Passing through the heart of the park, the rushing waters of the Youghiogheny River Gorge are the centerpiece for Ohiopyle. The "Yough" provides some of the best whitewater boating in the eastern United States, as well as spectacular scenery. Other activites are biking the Great Allegheny Passage, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, picnicking, horsebacking riding, rock climbing, and hiking.
Ohiopyle State Park is beautiful with walking trails on the old railroad tracks. The Falls itself is well worth the visit. The small town is great to also visit with many restaurants. I would recommend a nice sunny day and spend the day. You can also walk dogs on the trail, So bring the pets.

Perched on a rock above a gushing waterfall, this historic house was built for a Pittsburgh family by architect Frank Lloyd Wright in the 1930s, ingeniously designed to blend harmoniously into the tranquil and beautiful woods around it.
Designed by one of the US’s most iconic architects this place really was one of his masterpieces and a turning point in architecture around the world.
Not cheap to get in and also very popular I recommend you book a tour well in advance especially in the busier seasons.
Well worth a look around both inside and from the grounds around it.
Interesting house with great guides to tell you all about the who’s and whys things were done as they were.

Honestly found this property more compelling a creation than the famous Fallingwater.
Once discovering that Wright actually never saw the finished product makes it that much more brilliant.
Filled with custom furniture and otherworldly interactive details, it’s an absolute marvel!
Take the opportunity to photograph yourself amongst the beautiful mountainous backdrop in the rear of the property

Cave with 2.8 miles of underground passages: great for viewing weird rock formations.
I'm not a cave snob & have hardly toured such places but this place definitely satisfies the experience. Christian was my guide and he did a wonderful job explaining the geophysics of the place as well as giving a humorous low down on the history of its development into a tourist site. There's lots to see for the casual explorer like me or the more advanced rock climber or cave hiker.

Wilderness Voyageurs has been taking river & cycling trips out for the past 40+ years and it shows. We travelled all the way from Australia to ride the GAP Trail. Frank & Rich were not only wonderful guides but solid, friendly people. The ride itself was great but enhanced substantially by the guides, their culinary ability and the magnificent accomodation on offer.
The GAP Trail is an iconic journey - the only way to do it is as a guest of WV! Thanks WV.

Our family of six hiked up to the cross at Jumonville camp. The 60'-tall cross is visible from OH, WV, and MD, which means that the view from up there is beautiful. Hikers should know that the hike to the cross, although steep, is on a paved trail.
We then hiked the trails in the woods. We appreciated that the entrance to the trails had a kiosk with free, rain-proof maps of the trails. I had been to the camp when I was a teen, and I had many great memories there. It was as beautiful as I had remembered, and the family enjoyed it too. If you do not hike the color-indicated trails, at least take the main trail to the Green Cathedral. It is a beautiful oasis in the woods - ponds, streams, bridges, etc. The history, explained by historical markers, was very interesting. It would be so nice to live near a place like this!

Attention to detail is excellent at the Woodlands Spa. From the moment you enter, the staff assures you that they’ll inform your therapist where you’ll be seated so that it doesn’t take time away from your treatment when your therapist is looking for you.
The quiet room on the third floor is a lovely place to relax. There’s a roaring fire, simple snacks, teas, and cozy lounge chairs. I could’ve stayed all day.
I got a foot reflexology treatment and my husband had a massage. We were pleased with our treatments.
My only “gripe” with the spa (I.e., my reason for giving it a “very good” rather than “excellent” rating) is regarding the lunch service. We ordered our lunch (which is essentially room service that delivers to the spa) and ate in the lobby of the spa. It was kind of cold and drafty at the table. Also, we ate our food out of takeout containers. It would’ve been nice to have real cutlery and a better setting for eating lunch. This is a small gripe, but after having visited the Spa at the Hotel Hershey several times, I know how lovely a spa lunch in one’s bathrobe can be.
