One Man...three distinctly and uniquely different characters...one sumptuous meal.Truly an escape back in time as we present a three-part journey toinclude:Civil War Era Magic ShowAn "Old Timer" who will share stories about life as a civilian during the Battle of GettysburgA Theatrical Re-Creation of a Civil War Era Seance.2 1/2 hours of sound entertainment of the era, for the entire family at The Historic Fairfield Inn.
If the idea of dining in a small historic inn while being entertained with Civil War era magic and history appeals to you, then you cannot miss this wonderful dinner theater. We especially enjoyed the intimate setting in the 250 year-old ballroom, although we were told that the main restaurant is used when larger crowds attend. For an extra cost you can order a bottle of wine that comes from the local winery, which we really enjoyed. We had a great time, enjoyed the food, and had great service. This was a highlight of our weekend in the Gettysburg area.

Whether you are into skiing, snowboarding, snow tubing, or just hanging out with friends, the atmosphere and offerings at Liberty Mountain Resort will keep you coming back for more! And you won't believe a resort with this much to offer is so close to home! Our mountain has 16 trails for all ability levels, from super wide for beginners to challenging mogul runs for advanced and expert skiers.
Liberty is about 90 minutes north of where we live in VA. Thought the kids might want to try some snowboarding but once we got there, they didn't want to go through the lessons so we just headed to the snow tubing area. Kids enjoyed themselves but it was so busy that our 1-hour pass permitted only three runs down the hill. Kind of expensive for three runs. Huge lines and long waits prevented a higher rating.

Our 25C Downtown Gettysburg Wine Shop is still open 7 days a week!
We first sampled Adams County at Ligionier Days a few years ago. They had wine tasting and they come in for it. We visited the actual winery in 2013 and have been fans of their wines ever since. We were warmly greeted and had the place to ourselves since they had just opened and it was mid week. They do have lots of events on weekends that you can attend and enjoy their wines, food and entertainment. We did some tastings and were blessed enough to have been gifted some gift certificates for Adams County. We were able to make a nice purchase, confirm that we were already members of their rewards program and were able to receive our first incentive reward. If your lucky you might be able to see their Beloved Rusty and by all means you should sample Rusty's wines, they have his paw of approval! Very nice selection of traditional wines, some delicious berry and apple wines. I did forget to ask if they we were bringing Pumpkin Spice back this year. It was a first last year and they brought some to Ligionier Day. Might not sound too appealing but it was very good, a nice one to warm with a cinnamon stick. Scrapple is also a nice apple wine that you can warm as well. If you like wine, they have something for everyone. Worth stopping in for a tasting if your in the area.

You really need to have a private tour to appreciate the intense battles that took place on these hallowed grounds. Howard Wallace was our guide and he was wonderful. He gave so much detail about the sections of the battlefield that we visited. We never would have known some of the stories had we toured on our own.
We plan to return for another visit and another guided tour.

Our goal is to promote the state's vibrant culture by shining a light on all the wonderful places to see and things to do in Maryland. Come enjoy our beautiful and informative exhibits about the area and let us help you plan your next trip to the Old Line State. Located on US 15 Catoctin Mountain Highway South. Amenities include: playground, pet area, truck/RV parking, picnic tables, and restrooms.
Walked in the welcome center, immediately heard, "Welcome to Maryland." We had a pleasant conversation, and picked up a few informational items. Best thing was we scored a recommendation for the "crab bomb" at Jerry's Seafood in Bowie MD. That was excellent, if you are headed that way. (I mentioned to our waitress at Jerry's that they got a shout out at the rest stop. She was appreciative.) So, to wrap up: a nice place to stop, stretch your legs, enjoy the view, talk to some pleasant people, and pick up a few items to enjoy your stay in Maryland.

The Battle of Gettysburg was a turning point in the Civil War, the Union victory that ended General Robert E. Lee's second and most ambitious invasion of the North. Often referred to as the "High Water Mark of the Rebellion", Gettysburg was the Civil War's bloodiest battle and was also the inspiration for President Abraham Lincoln's immortal "Gettysburg Address".
You really appreciate the care and maintenance that goes into this special place.
It has monuments that memorialise sacrifices made by soldiers from the North & the South- it doesn’t matter what rank they were.
Our tour guide asked us to be respectful of the monuments & the location - which we understood & respected.
Sadly there were families with kids running around, sitting on rock monuments, taking photos, & talking loudly (yelling and playing).
The information signs were very helpful. Thank you to everyone involved in looking after this site, it’s obviously a labour of love.

The National Shrine Grotto of Our Lady of Lourdes, a Catholic shrine devoted to Our Blessed Mother Mary, is a place of worship, pilgrimage, evangelization and reconciliation. This beautiful mountain shrine features one of the oldest American replicas of the Lourdes shrine in France, built about two decades after the apparition of Mary at Lourdes in 1858, and attracts hundreds of thousands of pilgrims each year from all over the world. It offers the occasion for a deepening conversion, a step forward in the journey to God, with Mary as the model for that journey.
I was greatly moved by my walk through the shrine. There are mosaics, statues, and memorials throughout the grounds. One can linger over these on the way to the chapel and grotto, or simply absorb the peaceful atmosphere and extraordinary view. As this was my first visit, I found the visitor centre staff most helpful in directing me. All in all, this is a must-see if you’re in the area.

Carroll Valley Golf Course is an 18-hole championship course is located in a valley set amidst the picturesque rolling hills of South Central Pennsylvania, at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. A clear flowing mountain stream fronts nearly a third of the holes which uniquely feature six par 3's and five par 5's. This par 71 course, designed by Ault, Clark & Associates is a true championship length course. And now you play golf year round, night or day! The Pro Shop now features two state-of-the-art simulators. All you have to do is make a 'tee time' and you can golf any of 26 courses, play a variety of challenges, or just hit the driving range, all from the comfort of the indoors. Only $40 per hour, up to 8 players!
The Carroll Valley Gold Course has been in beautiful condition the past two weeks our foursome has played, coming as we do from as far away as Arlington, VA (me) and as near as Hagerstown, MD and Chambersburg, PA. With the natural flow of Tom's Creek running down through the valley, the course offers just the right blend of interesting and challenging holes for either low or high handicappers. What attracts me to the course is an old stone house just off the 3rd hole. The house was built in 1845 and its occupants would have watched the Confederate Army retreating south from Gettysburg toward the Potomac River and Williamsburg. When I first played the course in 2002, I was not aware of the fact that my Great Grandparents lived in that house in the early 1900s, perhaps earlier, and my mother used to play on the front porch nearly 100 years ago. That fact made me consider that the fairway I was playing on at #3 was probably an old field once farmed by my ancestors. I just hope my divots were not as deep as their plows! Getting back to the course itself, the holes run through one of the more beautiful settings in southern PA, is well maintained, and is actually situated in a valley that has a history going back to the French-Indian Wars and the earliest days of the colonies.

Historic site that's the home of the first American-born saint, Elizabeth Ann Seton.
The church & Shrine are self guided. Try not to go during mass on Sunday. The room for the statues of the Blessed Virgin are from all over the world & very beautiful. There is a little gift shop with lots of informational items, pictures, prayer cards et al. There is a free tour of the grounds that takes about 1 hour. Try to go on a less humid & hot day. Plenty of free parking.
