First time staying here at Emerald for the weekend with my partner. Such a pretty little town. We enjoyed a peaceful leisure walk around the lake, A prefect place for the family or couples enjoying a romantic weekend. The birds, plants, flowers, trees, paddle boats, picnic areas, play areas and Puffing Billy all there makes a perfect spot. Highly recommend the Emerald Lake.

Cardinia Reservoir Park is a great place for a family day out. The open parklands, picnic and barbecue areas and native bushland are abounding with native wildlife and flora. Have a picnic among the trees, enjoy panoramic views of the park from the many lookouts and vantage points or stroll along the dam wall. The Park contains three picnic areas each with its own wonderful views of the surrounding bushlands and open lawns. There is also a permanent orienteering course set up within Cardinia Reservoir Park. The Park is home to several groups of wild Kangaroos that are best seen early in the morning or late afternoon. Watch the Eastern Grey Kangaroos feeding at dusk, or basking in the sun along the kangaroo viewing trail. Whether you are looking for a location for a family get-together, a bike ride, walk, or to see the animals, you are sure to find a special area in Cardinia Reservoir Park that meets your needs. Cardinia Reservoir can be accessed from Wellington Road or Red Hill Road. A one way road loops around the main areas of the park.
A short 40 min drive and we were in wildlife paradise! Though we reached after noon, we saw a large mob of around 12 Eastern Grey Kangaroos. Enjoyed watching them go about their business. Also saw four king parrots, a kookaburra and four huge yellow-tailed black cockatoos! The cockatoos were a real treat. The walk along the dam wall as well as the Kangaroo trail and the Messmate trail were lovely. Walked about 7.3 km in all.
