It is incredible that this beautifully carved statue has survived the centuries and we can gaze on it today. It was carved during the Classical period of Greek sculpture in the 4th century B.C. Hermes is holding the baby Dionysus and it is a work of true beauty.

On my farm in Ancient Olympia, from which my grandparents made their living, and today is the basis of my own agricultural activities, you'll enjoy Greek hospitality. You will walk into our cool garden with trees and vegetables. I will guide you through my private collection, where I'll show you the secrets of honey production and other agricultural products from both past and present. Finally you will taste the products of my little farm and traditional sweets with honey from my bees, which with the help of my mother, will be prepared in front of you. Klio the beekeeper
Learned a lot about bees, honey making and greek tradition. Klio welcomed us as family and fed us delicious treats, and even had something special for me (being gluten intolerant). A must-do on every trip to Olympia!

A wonderful museum situated in the Olympia complex that is well worth the visit. So many pieces that are familiar if you love history. Do some online research and you will enjoy every minute. Take your time and just wander around - some tour groups but they tend to head for the 'big name' items. There is a lot more to see if you look - -

Words cannot describe the feeling someone will have when walking in these sacred ancient places and visiting the museum. The Olympics have shaped the world‘s athletic and cultural heritage and I definately recommend to visit this place. Be sure to wear confirtable shoes and bring some water during the summer time because of the temperatures. I would recommend a visit during spring time when the trees and flowers blossom.

The Mercouri Estate is located in the Western Peloponnese, near the village of Korakochori, 12 km from Pyrgos. Ii is extensive with 150 years of history in the production of quality wine and olive oil. In addition, it is also active in the tourism sector, welcoming friends of nature and wine who can visit the facilities, vineyards and olive groves, come into contact with the beautiful nature that surrounds the estate and taste the products.
Wonderful view, kind people and nice weather. Wine is absolutely fascinating and there is a wide variety of options. Would 100 percent recommend to take time and visit this place. The place has well preserved facilities from the last century, which is highly good for educational purposes as well.

A unique museum with reconstructed inventions of the ancient greek world! Interactive exhibits-replicas from the 7th c. BC.
The building may only be small world standards but it houses a wealth of knowlege regarding ancient Greek inventions. I was staggered to learn that centuries ago pilgrims visiting a holy shrine were able to use what apparently was one of the first inventions of a slot machine that would dispense a quantity of holy water by placing coins in the slot that fell onto a balance, which then opened a tap dispensing a measured amount of the water! This museum is full of similar technical inventions from industrial to medical use. If you are in Katakolo be sure not to miss this one

So we didn't want to pay to go see Olympia when our ship docked in Katakolon and decided to just do a beach day since it was our ship's first port in Greece. Got the five of us in a cab right at the end of the pier for 100 EU round-trip, not bad for a 20-30 minute drive each way. By the way, the taxi stand is really well run, with a person there asking where you want to go. We didn't know, just said a beach, and she pulls out this booklet showing pictures of all the local beaches. We said we wanted no rocks, and did want umbrellas and nice sand, and she suggested Kourouta Beach, and got us a driver. The driver was very pleasant and spoke manageable English so we could converse, and before we knew it we were at the beach. Plenty of available lounge chairs, all with umbrella as long as you order food or drinks from the servers who are never far. I think we were the only ones from our ship there, which was fantastic. Lots of locals. The beach was beautiful, well-maintained, and well-serviced. Nice sand, very hot but not burn your feet off hot. The food and drinks were not high-priced and delicious. The restaurant was playing great music, but not too loudly. The water was wonderfully calm and clear, my young son was able to swim around easily and loved seeing all the little fish around. He kept diving trying to catch one. Our driver met us about 3 hours later at the agreed upon time and drove us back to the ship. Great stop in Katakolon for us!

Katakolo Port was an afternoon stop-off on a recent cruise holiday. While the majority of people headed off for Olympus we decided to look around the small town as the weather was exceptional. This is possibly the most tranquil place on earth I have ever been to. The sea and sky were clear blue, the buildings tradition blue and white, the people so friendly and the overall atmosphere so relaxing that you could not fail but to enjoy it. There is a wonderful collection of shops selling a variety of goods, all reasonably priced, along with some lovely quay side restaurants. Will be adding this place to my return visit list without a doubt!!!
