Lovely volunteers.... sharing information about such a unique and important service, that us city folk take for granted! All questions big or small answered with so much passion! I hope that with the amazing future upgrades of the visitor centre, which the volunteers are so excited about, that their services are not lost .... Volunteers like this make the visit so incredible! If in Dubbo make sure you support the centre .... it’s only such a small entry fee !

Arrived early at the Zoo as was school holidays so we could access a buggy for half a day. The buggy was excellent as the zoo would have taken a long time to have walked around. The day was cold and overcast but the weather did not disappoint our expectations of the Zoo. The presentation of the Zoo staff at different sections was interesting and informative. Overall was a great day

Old Dubbo Gaol is a state heritage listed must see. This remarkably complete and intact gaol operated for 119 years from 1847 to 1966 and is still nestled in the main street of Dubbo. This set of 19th and 20th century gaol buildings create a pocket in time, and the experiences within brings history to life. This regional gaol is representative of powerful, surprising and dark moments in Australian prison history. We house important collections such as the hangman's kit and gallows, and unforgettable experiences such as the dark cells and the bird's-eye view from the watchtower. With guided tours, night tours, and theatrical experiences on offer, the Old Dubbo Gaol is a rare piece of history open to explore.
We were surprised to find the old Dubbo gaol located bang smack in the middle of the shopping precinct, located between stores. Truly all original and definitely worthy of its heritage listing - it's a definite must see when you're visiting Dubbo.

The Western Plains Cultural Centre is a function of Dubbo City Council and houses the former collections of the Dubbo Museum and Dubbo Regional Gallery.
We were not sure what to expect but it was a simple yet comprehensive snapshot of the history of Dubbo all for no cost
The displays were of real people doing extraordinary deeds from yesteryear
The cafe then provides a great coffee and snacks/meals/breakfast along with great service
The centre has additional displays from time-to-time which require a payment

Set in a grassed park with plenty of parking space, I was won over because there were no stairs or gutters to step up between the car and the front door!
The staff are friendly, answered in depth questions with ease, tracked down information on an attraction we visited more than 10 years ago (sadly no longer operating) and went to great lengths to ensure we had everything we needed.
Toilet facilities, including an accessible toilet, were spotlessly clean too.

A visit to this National Trust Dubbo property, allows visitors to engage in a special experience, stepping back into rural life in the early colony. Its story is one of amazing endeavour and vision, evidenced in the creation of a finely crafted albeit vintage home. The homestead has survived in near original condition at a time when the land was beyond the limits of settlement. Today it is set on 4 hectares of land, surrounded by farmland and is only 5 minutes from the city of Dubbo. Experience the tranquility of a unique part of Australian pioneering history. Enjoy a self guided tour at your leisure followed by a visit to the cafe. Stroll through the homestead's extensive traditional Gardens while the children play and visit the ducks and chickens. Guides are also able to assist and enhance your experience. Concessional entry price $6.50/children $4; Family (2 adults/2 children) $20.00.
We first thought it's just another tourist spot with an old building but it turned out to a very educational tour on the living of early settlers. We spent much longer time there than we expected. The staff (volunteers?) at the shed was very friendly who also served coffee and lunch. The $9.50 admission worth every cent of it. It opens only from 11am to 3pm so better plan your visit.

Red Earth Estate is located 4.5Kls from Taronga Western Plains Zoo. Visit our winery and experience more than just a wine tasting. For that total experience, enjoy a cheese platter and talk to our winemaker. All our wines are made on-site, using fruit predominately from our own Dubbo vineyard. Wines available for sale - Riesling, Verdelho, Torrontes, Moscato, Grenache, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon.
We stayed in early June for two nights it was so peaceful. The hosts are very nice and the wine was "pleasing" especially the 2016 Shiraz and the Monsanto. Will call in again when in areaWe are pleased you enjoyed your stay in our peaceful, relaxing environment. Thank you for your kind words and we hope to see you back here during your travels.

Night Sky & Telescope Viewing Bring your SLR camera to take astrophotographs through the telescope. Daytime viewing of Solar flares and sunspots, planet Venus and some daytime stars Astrominigolf
We visited while staying with friends in Dubbo. The Observatory is well set up; Peter clearly is very well educated and enthusiastic about astronomy and this comes across when he’s talking about the stars and planets. His presentation is interesting and well put together. Moving outside, even with a big group attending on the night, there are plenty of telescopes so not much waiting. Questions were quickly answered too. Definitely worth a visit.

This is one of the most under utilised facilities in Dubbo. A great resource, with great staff who are always helpful and tolerant of the occasional naughty younger ones.
There are the books, e books, audio books, DVDs , cd's , newspapers, magazines and probably loads of other stuff to see and do.
Do yourself a favour and visit this place
