At CLP 64,000 (at current rates, USD $ 91) for two people, my wife and I can enthusiastically recommend the full-day private bicycle tour of the Curico Valley. We bicycled around 30km (always with breaks after generous tastings of maybe six wines), visited two wineries, enjoyed a delicious lunch, and even got to make use of a private pool set against a background of hillside vineyards.
My wife and I were staying at the nearby Mapuyampay Gastronomy Lodge and were referred to Mark by our hosts. Mark and his team are friendly and professional from start to finish. I have done many bicycle tours of countryside, vineyards, and cities but this was the best. His office has a secure parking space for your rental car. He provides full automobile support and offers tons of stuff you may have forgotten to bring (e.g. suntan lotion, water, granola bars, etc.). Moreover, we learned a lot from Mark about Curico and the wine region.
For an ex professional cyclist, he has become extremely knowledgeable about wines. The wineries we visited we small (mostly domestic consumption and Asian exporting) but interesting. The tours were in Spanish (which we generally understand) but Mark was able to seamlessly translate anything. The wines were not outstanding but were very drinkable and compared favorably to our tasting experiences at places in the Colchgua and Casablanca Valleys. The staff were friendly and made us feel at home. There was no pressure to buy. Mark has clearly cultivated a good relationship with his business partners.
The riding was smooth and about 60% took place on or nearby the estates of wineries. The other 40% was on a lightly traveled local road with only one real uphill portion. We saw apple trees, kiwi trees, pine trees, fig trees, palm trees, blooming flowers, and cacti. Just amazing. The bikes were good quality.
Bottom Line: Real value for money. I really regret not booking additional riding tours with Alpaca Ciclismo. In fact, when we return to Chile, we plan to go on one of his multi-day trips. I felt like I was in good hands and that he would go out of his way to create a memorable trip.

Vina Las Pitras

Las Pitras it is a Chilean vineyard belonging to the Balbontin family, founded in 1934 by Rafael Balbontin Fuenzalida. The wine cellar is situated next to the old Casa Patronal de Vina Las Pitras, typical Chilean colonial era style over 200 years. We offer tours with wine tastings, visit to the wine cellar, trekking, cycling tourism , events to companies and more.

The vineyard was located close to Curicó, in a spectacular setting. Ignacia, our guide was friendly, extremely knowledgable about wine making and flexible to let us explore the place as we wished.
The highlights of this winery were: 1) the lookout built on top of the tanks where we could see the valley. 2) the cozy cellar within the old family house was the perfect setting for the wine tasting. 3) the owner of the winery came to welcome us. Not often winemakers approach tourists...
I recommend to visit this vineyard where you will understand the process of winemaking while enjoying an excellent wine in a cozy ambient.

An enjoyable visit to this specific Plaza de Armas, as the city map shows another less so centrally located.  The Plaza has an assortment of lovely statues, Fountains ,gorgeous huge trees, and on the Calle Carmen side a fantastic array of storyboards providing you with an abundance of historical information and facts about this area of Maule Region. Note the Large ornate wrought iron Grandstand. Lots to see, lots to enjoy and one of the better Plazas in the Central Valley region.

Cerro Condell

Reviewed By Jnanayog - St. John's, Canada

We first Vist ed here some 4-5 years ago. We have now this visit had an opportunity to walk up the Cerro Condell twice, the second today we came down the Exit (for Vehicle traffic ) route, turned left and walked back to the hotel. The entry across the street and along from the UniMart has a large waterfall / Fountain, play space for kids and also a small footpath that leads up to the large statue of The Virgin. At the top you get a series of great views of Curico. You can take a taxi up but far more enjoyable to walk. ..20 minutes or so to the Statue. Of course you can take the more vertical steps and path just to left of the Fountain. Side paths are very popular with paddle bikes. The *hill* has Great Potential yet to be used by the city to make it more visible to tourism. Today we discovered that at one time there was a vernicular somewhat similar to what you see in Valparaiso.
