This is a worthwhile theater with great actors. Place change daily and they have matinees. This year we have seen dirty rotten scoundrel's which was excellent and hilarious. The actors really earn their keep. The theater is small enough that it allows a close and personal visit with the play. Highly recommended.

This is a fantastic place to explore if you want to see old mining sites. Be sure to get a very inexpensive guidebook (pamphlet?) at the Creede Visitors' Center. These historic sites are vanshing quickly; the government is bulldozing them to make them "safe". Even some of the sites numbered in the guidebook have since been razed.

North Clear Creek Falls

While driving along the wide flat valley near creede, it seems unusual to see a sign for a waterfall. Suddenly the meandering creek drops into a major canyon, creating an impressive waterfall. The Overlook has several viewpoints from which to see the rainbow created by the falls and the Black Swifts flying in and out from behind the falls. Be sure to read the interpretive signs posted there. It's definitely worth a stop!

We stumbled across the turnoff for this mine while riding our ATVs on Bachelor Loop. It is an eclectic mix of mining memorabilia and period buildings. There are lots of rocks and minerals displayed for sale as well as a jewelry store that hangs out over a cliff. We were surprised to learn that there are two rooms available for overnight for a donation. And I had great fun feeding the ground squirrels and chipmunks. All in all, it was a fun, unexpected diversion.

Creede Underground Mining Museum

Relatively short walking tour. You can get a guide if you want, think about 12.00 per person. We opted for the audio tour which I think did an excellent job at 6.00 per person. You will probably need a jacket as the temperature is a cool 60 degrees. Total distance is probably less than half mile. Goes from scene to scene and explains whats in that area. Probably about 16 station scenes. A few benches if you need to rest. There are no slopes, climbing, just basically a long loop. Took about an hour for complete tour. Wife bought several pieces of jewelry there, and pretty decent price. Would recommend to anyone.

I usually do some people watching while my wife shops in Creede, but I always enjoy this store. Probably the fossil collections are the attention getter, but once inside there are many interesting and quality items to peruse. Well worth a look.

Wheeler Geologic Area

This remote area can be reached by mountain bike, hiking trail or in a four wheel drive vehicle.

Reviewed By jrog9832 - Arvada, Colorado

We backpacked the 7mi hike through the Rio Grande National Forest and camped right at the Wheeler boundary. The hike itself is fairly mild with some up and down along the way. A few beautiful spots on the trail but somewhat monotonous at times. Once you get to the actual geologic area you will be blown away as you most likely have never seen anything like it. There is a 2.8+ loop around it but I suggest only going to the main viewpoint located just above the first intersection to the left. That is by far the best viewpoint and the others are somewhat lackluster. If you drive the 14mi road out you may want to do the entire loop but there is considerable elevation gain and wouldn't be good for everyone. Definitely a bucket list item and glad we were able to check it off.

Silver Thread Scenic and Historic Byway

This is one of many scenic and historic byways in Colorado. We spent a week traveling the southwestern part of the state and followed 4 different ones. This is the longest (I think) and the scenery changes every few miles. The fact that South Fork, Creede and Lake City are on the route makes it even more worthwhile. If you have the time and a 4WD vehicle, the Alpine Loop from Lake City is a great side trip.

These ladies were superb, welcoming, funny and not caddy! I went for a shellac manicure ($55) with my mother in law who had a regular pedicure ($45..?). We were lucky to get a last minute booking, because this business was booked about a week out. The selection of products was extensive for a small shop. Locals came in and they were friendly with everyone, including the older gentleman who was looking for the chamber of commerce. It was a welcoming atmosphere and I throughly enjoyed spending some vacation money here!
