We went on a rainy Saturday night around 9 p.m. The place was packed....with teenagers. Lots of activities for them such as the game room. But most of them were just hanging out at the snack bar.
We bowled several games and lost our patience with the ball return machine. The balls were not returned to us and we could see them spinning around waiting for the return to capture them. Also, the pins would fall over before we bowled our game and we would have to reset them at least two times. The people bowling next to us complained that there were not enough bowling bowls and had to use ones that were not a suitable weight.

One of Catawba County's 'secret' gems! Spent a couple hours having a picnic then hiking with a group of friends on a lovely Spring afternoon. Numerous picnic sites, some right by the Catawba River. Well-cleared and well-marked hiking trails of varying degrees. Most are moderate. Benches scattered throughout the park thanks to an Eagle Scout project a few years ago. Staff are helpful and restrooms very clean. Nature center often has displays.

I volunteer at a local facility and over time, I have driven by numerous signs pointing to the Bunker Hill Covered Bridge. Always curious but never felt I had the time till yesterday when I was running early.
Decided to take the turn off of US 70 and satisfy my curiosity.
Should have done this a long time ago. Not a staffed facility and pretty much you're on your own but it's very much self explanatory.
Covered Bridges, once common are now rare. Original construction on this one dates back to the 1890's but has a historical link via the Island Ford Road back to Kings Mountain in the 1780's and the battle for King's Mountain.
In autumn, a beautiful walk. If you are a fan of architecture and engineering, you will appreciate the construction of the bridge.
For the nature lover, you will love the setting and the serenity of the area, particulary in the autumn splendor.
Only downside is the crass and immature behavior of some patrons with the graffiti they leave behind.
Such a shame and a desecration of that which is simple but beautiful and historically significant to our heritage.

I've been to 2 games this month with my family. We enjoyed great seats, fun times, good ball park food and drinks, easy parking and the entry was about what I would have paid to go see a movie. These players are fun to watch!

It is truly a place where you can find just about anything you want. Antiques, collectibles, furniture, dishes, pictures and paintings, books, etc. You name it and they probably have it somewhere. I found pics of 3 lighthouses in Maine that just had to have and luckily it happened to be on sale. The owners are very nice and personable. Will definitely go back when I visit Hickory again.

Had a about an hour to kill one afternoone so being a history nut, I dropped in.
One hour is not enough but in the hour I learned a lot of the history of the hour. My ancentors were some of the original settlers in Mecklenburg County (Charlotte) and this was the next area settled.
Interesting about how the furniture industry started along with the settlement of religious minorities from Central Europe that I only knew a little about.
One hour is not enough so I am planning on a return trip to spend at least a couple of hours here.
