St. John's Episcopal Church

Reviewed By MDFS333 - Nashville, United States

For a true reflection of the early 19th century that is all but undisturbed, WE highly suggest you take in this site...... If not for the highway noise, you would think you are viewing the church from the time period perspective..... There is no admission and parking is limited to the front gate. There is no guided tour and, to find out the real story/history, we suggest you research ahead of time and, you will be pleased you have when you take in the site. The architecture is amazing, the site pensive and pristine, and the cemetery is astounding for its sculpture, the who is who of Tennessee history. The church is open for a Whit Sunday service which is in reality a Polk Family reunion and, some other event in the Fall... We could not see the interior but, from description little has changed since it was built.... We will find out the protocol of the Whit Sunday event and perhaps have a peek after services are over..... WOW, this is History....

The new owners have made some wonderful changes. Non-smoking inside with a beautiful patio area with an outdoor tiki stage. They have Expanded the menu adding some delicious options. I love the Bologna Sandwich and the Mule Balls! And the Chicken Salad sandwich is tasty too! It’s a fun place to hang out for karaoke or live music!

Great place to find things from the past, things unique, clothing and anything else you wish you could find. Additionally, on the third floor must try out the food and beverages from The Parlour. We tried the Grilled Cheese & Creamy Tomato Soup on a cold, drizzly day. Soon delicious. Amy prepared the food to perfection. They have coffee as well. Take a break from shopping and eat here. Many great unique stores in downtown Columbia...Baxter’s Merchantile is a great place to find unique items, clothing and more as well. Shop downtown Columbia for a day.
