One hour ride on the beach and over the dunes. We had 3 families with ages from 51 to 7. They chose great horses for each of us; provided helmets for those less than 17 and gave us instructions on how to ride (No serious riders in our group). Nice set up just over the dunes from the beach. We really had a nice time on our last full day on the Oregon coast. Highly recommend. Thank you Lolo, Jeff and Cassidy for making our group comfortable and giving us a wonderful time.

My teenage son and I were planning this ATV experience for a while and Rick did not disappoint. Very thorough and professional he made the whole experience a safe memorable one. Brand new equipment and loads of fun. Beautiful spot.
I will be coming back next year again.
One piece of advice is be organized and plan ahead as they require bookings made ahead of time which we did . Enjoy!!

Clay Myers State Natural Area At Whalen Island

Reviewed By wdlander - Post Falls, Idaho

We stopped here hoping to find a hike, and found a loop trail that covers a great portion of the natural area. The brush and tree growth really show you just how rugged the coast can be. There are viewing areas all along the trail, and you can enjoy the beauty of the area, and the quietness of the natural area. We were lucky and had a clear sunny day. On the Oregon coast weather can be iffy and turn on a dime ,so you might find yourself wishing for your water proof hikers and a good raincoat. If you are lucky as us,it will just be a very pleasant hike in a very special place.

Great hike today. Try to wear hiking boots because it is muddy, bring walking poles if you are into using those! Great view from the fields at the top of the climb. Beautiful panoramic view of the Pacific coast from the top. Like I said, muddy but, definitely worth the climb!

Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area

Reviewed By CraftBeers - Plano, Texas

I almost skipped Cape Kiwanda because of all the pictures. It looks like a place filled with sand dunes. It does have a single huge sand dune, but it's so much more. Cape Kiwanda has three main features that come together to make an awesome must-visit location.

First and foremost, this is an ocean front sandy beach. It's flat with easy access to the water. The beach is heavily used by Dory boats, which are flat bottomed, high sided and pointed bow.

The second feature is the rock formations. There is a monolithic haystack rock similar to the one at Cannon Beach. It's a little under a mile out into the ocean, but it dominates the ocean view. To the north is a single cliff wall with a few cave systems. It's pretty to view, but in low tide it exposes the tide pools.

The third feature is a single massive sand dune. This is the sand dune you see in all the pictures. The beach spreads south for miles, but at the north end of the cape it rises up into the sand dune. People walk up it where you get a great view. It's hard walking as the sand is the same consistency as a sand volleyball court.

I think I should add that there is sort of a fourth feature, but it's man-made. That extra feature just sealed the deal for this location. Pelican Brewery is located right on the beach. They make their own beer on sight. See their TripAdvisor site for more information, but for purposes of this review they have patio seating. It's phenomenal to sit on their patio and watch the sun set behind the Haystack rock. Awesome!!!

Things to consider when visiting this location.
- There is a large flat beach area where kids and families can play.
- Surfers use this location abd are fun to watch.
- Dory boats land on this beach for practice. The high speed race towards the shore and coasting onto the beach is interesting to watch.
- To the left of the sand dune is a tiny cave system and series of rock formations in the ground. In low tide, you can see plant life, mussels, and sea life in the cave and tide pools.
- The sand dune is a steep climb. Many kids fell/jumped/slid down the hill.
- Pelican Brewery is on the beach. You can have craft beers and enjoy the scenery.
- We saw two different camp fires set up by beach goers. They brought an i-Home, music source and chairs. They sat on the beach with their fire going. They watched the sun set, drank a beer and listened to the music.

I love Cape Kiwanda!

Just south of Tillamook, there is a road that one drives out a bit to the Sandlake Recreation Area. We enjoyed our drive out to the area. We also liked watching the ATVs driving on the sand dunes in the area. The area has beautiful coastal sand dunes.

There are campgrounds in this area as well.

Neskowin Beach Golf Course

Reviewed By Hutch333id - Cochrane, Canada

Neskowin Beach Golf Club is a small nine hole private golf course owned by a collection of residents from the adjoining village. The course does have one paid member of staff, hired to care for the greens and act as the Superintendent. I played here a couple of times and found the course to be an enjoyable “Executive” style course. No par 5’s, but two par 3’s and the remaining all par 4’s. There are no bikers on the course but if your ball goes in to the rough forget it. The course is laid on marsh land so some area are quite wet and boggy. Greens are small and considering the whole place was run by volunteers until recently, they are in good condition. The course won’t challenge the serious golfer but for a quick nine holes it was fun and easy to walk. The volunteer staff at the office are very friendly and we chatted for a while about the area and then where I was from. If I’m ever back in this area, I would play here again.

At the Pelican Pub & Brewery the atmosphere is laid back, but we take our beers very seriously. With five award-winning beers available on tap and bottled year-round, you'll never be disappointed. But we make it our mission to always have some extra seasonal or one-off beers on tap to keep things interesting. Schedule a brewery tour to learn more.

This place has a lot going for it. For starters, the location is great and if you get a window seat you get an absolutely glorious beach view. The food here was very delicious - their calamari appetizer was fantastic and very large. I ordered fish and chips, and I found this to be delicious, and their cole slaw was extremely tasty. I felt that their staff was friendly and did a satisfactory job of checking in on us.

My one complaint is that they'll charge you $3 to upgrade from fries to onion rings on your dish, and then only give you 6 onion rings. I found this to be absolutely ridiculous. Onions, oil, and panko breading are not exactly expensive - so why you'd have to pay an extra $2 per onion ring, on top of the price you're already paying for the meal which comes with a side, is absolutely beyond me. I believe the restaurant should either reevaluate how much they are charging their customers to upgrade, or they should be giving you at least twice as many onion rings as they are currently.

Whalen Island County Park

Reviewed By Vickie M - Birmingham, Alabama

My daughter found a gem of a campground. Whalen Island fronts an estuary on the Oregon coast just north of Pacific City. It's a Tillamook County Park offering camping of a rustic sort - no hookups, no playgrounds - but the chance to live by an estuary for a few days was magical. Our large family group of 12 included tents, trailers, a camper, and 6 kids. We had plenty of room on the grasslands bordering the shoreline banks. The kids bolted from their car seats to explore the mud banks and the rocks at low tide where they found crabs, clams, sea-stars (starfish), and anemones. At high tide we broke out the inflatable kayak and took turns tucked out of view to watch the bald eagle that visited the far bank at dusk and dawn for a little fishing.
If dining and shopping are your weakness, Pacific City offers plenty of that, and within reach are sandy beaches and all the Tillamook cheese you could wish for.

Cape Lookout State Park

Coastal park offering opportunities for whale watching.

Reviewed By KHForever - Utah

Beautiful views, ocean, hikes just past the state park. We took the Cape Trail which lead out to the scenic point, moderate hike. Almost 5 miles round trip. Beautiful day, weather perfect, clear and sunny. The hike through the trees was so relaxing and cool. Definitely a great hike. Coming back is more uphill, ended up getting back sooner even though a little more challenging with more uphill (we love to hike but working so much we haven't been for a few years, even on our planned vacation trips with no hiking on most caribbean beaches) we stopped more on the way down with pictures and enjoying views and time together. If the weather is clear for views, a must for a great moderate hike.
