The bucolic town of Chuncheon is only 45 miles from Seoul and has lots to offer a visitor looking to explore Korea’s more scenic side. Take a ferry to popular Nami island, which was the site of the Korean hit drama Winter Sonata.

We visited korea last month and Nami Island was one of the attraction the tourist guide was telling us on our first day..Nami Island was famous because of the korean drama Winter Sonata.I did browse the internet and truly it was beautiful.Unfortunately it was winter when we visited the place so i did not expect so much. The river was frozen and there were diggings due to ice.I guess spring would be better.Overall, the place was nice.We stayed there for an hour and took the time to enjoy the coolness and the fresh air Nami could offer.

Fun to ride the rail bike and get to see the scenic views of the countryside. It was a leisure self peddle ride and we did not find it to be tiring.
The activity had a 40mins self peddle ride before stopping for a brief stop and transferring to a 15mins train ride. At the end of the ride, a short walk to the shuttle bus to take us back to the entrance. Total time 1.5 hours.
Probably the only cons is to have to wait for slow 'riders' who clog up the track in front of you :)
Overall, we would recommend this activity as part of the day visit to Nami island.
To get to this place, you will need to take the ITX-Cheongchun express train to gapyeong station and transfer over to the normal train on the opposite platform. Do remember to tap your Tmoney card on the transfer machine. Stop at Gimyujeong statntion.

Accessibility: When you avail the Chuncheon City Tour Bus (KRW5,000), this destination is included in the tour course. If not, you can take the subway. From Chuncheon Station, take Bus No. 63 and get off at Chuncheon's Myeong-dong (approx. 10 min). When you see the chicken statue and the smell of dalkgalbi, you are in the right place.
Food and Price: Most of the restaurants have a price of between 10,000-11,000KRW for 300 grams Dalkgalbi. The taste is good. You must try this dalkgalbi when you are in this area because this is their representative dish.

The dam is pretty large but what makes this place so amazing is the scenery all around it. I got at least 20 good shots on my camera. You can walk across the bridge, walk up the hill, get some pictures at the pagoda on the hill and get a bird's eye view of the whole area. Then if you have time, you can take a nice 20-minute inexpensive ferry ride across the dam to a small temple on a peaceful and quiet island. You can take a taxi to the dam but then easily find two or three buses back to downtown Chuncheon or Chuncheon Station. This is totally worth a visit. You have to love Gangwon-do!

There is a walking street about 1km , but a much much longer shopping mall underground, we cannot finished walking before it is closed. We parked my car in a building very close by and there is another bigger parking underground along the street, no need to worry parking, the cost is4500won. It is a good shopping place.

My family visited this area on our way to my cousin's wedding in Chuncheo area. There was good place to know about Kim Yu-jeong, Korean famous writer. This area was well managed and had good atmosphere. Good place to walk and know about Kim Yu-jeong.

The Jade Garden is a breakaway from the traditional S. Korean experience as it has been built to reflect the western culture. I was told that because most S. Koreans could not speak English or other European languages, they did not travel frequently to European countries. Thus they built this Jade Garden, an assortment of small Gardens of European styles, so that they could film or take photographs with an European background. I went there in Oct. and it was not the flowering season, so the place looked a bit boring except for the area near the entrance where they maintained a colourful array of flowers. Nevertheless it was a pleasant experience.

It was built originally with a plan that Chuncheon city would manage it. But now
defectors from north Korea run it.
The museum on the first floor is not that much big,
only having some traditional tools
which were used to make noodle several decades ago.
On the second floor, there is a restaurant,
carrying the noodle, boiled meat
and some fried food.
One good thing is that they have a special place for you to make a noodle in person
through an old process, making a dough,
making a noodle through a manual
squeeze.
My five-year-old girl was super happy
when making a dough and squeezing.
If you want To enjoy real taste of MAKGUKSU noodle, go to other
renowned restaurant.
But you are not a big fan on the noodle and would like to experience the noodle-making process with your children,
it is worth it.

Amazing work being done at the Animation High School in Chuncheon and the museum is a lot of fun and underscores the importance of animation as a career path in South Korea! If you are interested in comparative history, take this trip down memory lane and see the developments of animation as a field. Not sure how easy it will be, but the high school is also well worth a visit - probably has to be arranged in advance. The building site is also fun. Bring a picnic and hang outside watching the herons on the lake nearby (or river as it may be). Gift shop has fun gifts for children.
