The southwestern castle city of Cesky Krumlov is one of the Czech Republic’s finest medieval sites. Its Old Town is a UNESCO-designated World Heritage Site, a maze of twisting alleys built around the extensive Cesky Krumlov castle. Saunter through crooked, cobblestone streets on foot and soak up the atmosphere of this impeccably preserved medieval gem. The gushing Vltava, popular with rafting enthusiasts, darts through the town.

Cesky Krumlov is a huge tourist magnet, which makes things colorful and easy for travelers. Lassoed by its river and dominated by its castle, this enchanting town feel lost in a time warp. At times it can feel like a medieval theme park - but not so much that it entirely tramples the place's charm. It's easy to enjoy strolling the town without ever paying to enter a sight. But it's worth considering the Baroque Theater at the castle and the Bohemian Castle inself, which can be seen only with a reserved tour. When you see in Cesky Krumlov awe-inspiring castle, delightful Old Town of shops and cobbled lanes, characteristic little restaurants, and easy canoeing options, you'll understand why having fun is a slam-dunk here. Most of Cesky Krumlov's modest sights are laced together in this charming self-guided walk from the top of the historic Old Town, down its spine, across the river, and up to the castle. The town and its historical center rich mix of Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque building which curve with the winding streets. Step into shops and snoop into back lanes and tiny squares. Take your time to learn, consider, admire and enjoy!!

The exhibition itself is very well designed with correct amount of information splited across the house rooms. A suggestion: in the first two rooms maybe subnumbers can be assigned to the objects so the photography lames can understand the tools mentioned in the audio guide.

Took a day trip from Prague to this old town as there are so many photos & bloggers reviews about it. It’s really worth a visit although it’s a 3hours ride from Prague. CK castle of course is the no 1 attraction if you want to have a panoramic view of the whole town. You can take a leisure walk around the castle compound where each & every corner gives you different view of the Old Town. Take a short climb to the top of the tower of course is the only way to have a panoramic view of the scenery. It’s definitely a wonderful place to visit !

Our accomodation was clean and adequately comfortable. It was operated by an ice cream merchant which ran their business in the doorway (literally) of the accomodation. We had to squeeze past them to get Into the housing. There was a small garden area above that we enjoyed at night. We could look directly up and see the paintings on the wall of the castle bathed in ambient light. It was heavenly. We were steps away from a tiny crepe merchant with fabulous food. Musicians entertained us on the street. Everywhere we ate was great. Latran is the place to stay in Cesky as you can explore the castle grounds, gardens and shops right out your door. The accommodations may not always be luxurious but they will be extraordinary. Oh how I would love be to go back there again. There’s so much to see!

If you find yourself in Cesky Krumlov and want to take a break from the in-town sightseeing and crowds, this moderate half-day hike is well worth it! I did the hike on relatively hot/humid Sunday in late August and the small restaurant on top was open so a great opportunity to grab a quick lunch and cold drinks. The Klobasa I ordered was deer sausage and quite tasty and went well with the local Czech beer. As to the hike, here is my experience: 1. The hike took about 4 hours, just under 2 hours uphill and about 1.5 downhill with a half hour lunch break. It was about an 11 mile round trip hike from the Cesky Krumlov town square. There was very little foot traffic on the hike, so it was mostly solitude. 2. Most of the hike is on paved road, then gravel road, and finally about the last 1.5 miles being through the woods on a wooded, dirt forest trail. The last few miles of the hike are very steep and probably not something you want to do after it has rained as would be slippery. 3. As mentioned in an earlier post, the starting point where you start seeing the trail markers (green strip between two white stripes) is just after the train station. Once you start seeing them (there are sufficient numbers to keep you from getting lost and at every decision point such as right or left), just follow them and they will guide you through any forks in the trail or turns all the way up to the backside of the facility on top of Klet Mountain. Also, follow any large arrows you will encounter and they are usually accompanied by a trail marker to verify that is what it is for. Prior to the train station, you will not see much directional info, if any at all. The Tourist Info office in the town square can provide a map of the trail route, but it is really only useful for the twists and turns as the trail markings are all you need.

I had 6 hours at Cesky Krumolov to kill. The castle only took so much of your time and the Egon Schiele museum was a pleasant surprise. As an admirer of Schiele's works, I hadn't realized there was a museum dedicated to his works in Cesky Krumolov (he apparently spent some years here, his mother's homeland). I easily spent couple hours here. The museum was also showing exhibits by female artists when I visited. Overall, I found the museum more worthwhile than the National Gallery museums in Prague.
