Located in the southwestern part of Switzerland, in its French-speaking part between Lake Geneva and Lake Neuchâtel, the Canton of Vaud is a vacation destination where life is good. Easily accessible thanks to the proximity of Geneva international airport and an exceptionally dense public transport network, the region offers all the necessary infrastructures, from five-star palaces to charming guest rooms. The diversity of its landscapes, from the peaks of the Alps, to the lakeside towns of Lausanne and Montreux, to the wide open spaces of the Jura and the authentic charm of the countryside, concentrates all the facets of Switzerland in one territory. The unexpected, the unusual, a home for outsider art before there was even such a category. Naive, regional and outsider artists convene in one outstanding collection of truly rarified art. Don't miss the tattoo collection (yes actual skin) dating from the 19th century. If you like strange exotic and esoteric art, this is the place for you!

In 1996, five years after his death, a bronze statue was unveiled on the lakeshore. Having become a real place of pilgrimage for all his fans, the statue of Freddie Mercury is now an essential figure in the city of Montreux.
The Freddie Mercury Memorial is a beautiful tribute to a larger than life performer. He faces the lake and is beautiful (all times but especially) at sunset.

Beautiful vineyards even during winter, it is worth it if you are in the region of Montreux. My friend took me there with her car and we had a beautiful view of the lake with the vineyards. I am sure it looks even more beautiful when the weather is clear and when they are more green. It was the first week of January.

Hold your breath and board this train that climbs, climbs, and climbs some more. Nothing scares it, neither the steep slopes nor the snow. At the Rochers-de-Naye, at over 2,000 metres altitude, what amazing scenery! Lake Geneva in all its glory. Don’t leave the place without saying hello to the marmots, the mascot of the Alps. A tip: it is said that this is where the real Santa Claus spends the winter.
A classic Swiss train ride with spectacular views leading to the nostalgic summit building and small ski area. Rochers de Naye features beautiful hikes, Mongolian huts, marmot villages, an alpine garden and even Santa’s office depending on the season. A must visit if in the Montreux area. If the weather is clear the views are absolutely stunning.

This was a real deep dive in Queen´s and in particular Freddie Mercury´s history. The band recorded seven Albums in this studio and you can sit in the original Control Room and even mix the lead voice with the other instruments. The last Freddie´s song he ever recorded was "Mother Love" and he was singing in the tiny Control Room of the Studios. You can mix this song and also "Made in Heaven". However, the original NEVE Mixer was unfortunately replaced with a plastic version of it. I think they should have kept the original mixer and sealed it to prevent visitors to touch it. Many costumes and instruments used by Queen in many concerts (including Live Aid) are also part of the museum. Roger Taylor and Brian May provide good explanations via video recording. You should not miss visiting the Queen Studio Experience!

While strolling in front of the lake, stop shortly for a photo with Vevey's best known citizen. The walk by the lake offers an incredible view. On a sunny day, one of Europe's nicest walks.
