TWIN RIVER OUTFITTERS is a paddle sports business that rents canoes, kayaks, rafts, and river tubes. We are located just 25 minutes from downtown Roanoke VA. We run Upper James river in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. TRO offers its customers fun and safe river trips that range from lazy river to whitewater paddling experiences with true mountain views. We offer a variety of single day and multi-day river based camping trips. We are the oldest and most experienced outfitter operating on the Upper James River and have been safely running paddle trips since 1978. We maintain the largest kayak and canoe rental fleets in this part of the state with lots of types of canoe and kayak models to choose from.
This trip was a blast!!! My wife and I did the Eagle Rock to Buchanan 2 day canoe/camping trip. The staff was very friendly, and very informative about the trip. They were genuinely concerned with us having a good, yet safe, time. The trip itself was very relaxing, and very easy to accomplish. I would highly recommend TRO to any and everyone.

Lots of folks on the water in kayaks but not many on the bridge. Great views from it though, and you can wave at the kayakers and watch the turtles sunning themselves. It's free, too!

Told about this place by another store and were not disappointed! The Amish made furniture is really neat and they have plenty of antique type things for decorating the home.
We spent about an hour here and too much money but worth it!
A must visit!

I love to shop at Purgatory Emporium! It has everything from antiques to vintage items to homemade aprons. It is well organized with over 50 venders' wares. Prices are reasonable so you can discover many great finds. The employees are very helpful and knowledgeable about the items in the store. You can inquire about any discounts that are available for certain vendors. You can even buy flowers, fresh fruit, & vegetables in season
Christmas time is also a great shopping experience at Purgatory. Many vintage Christmas items are available. This shop is truly a gem when it comes to shopping!

Every year the volunteers serve a Meal after a great tribute to the Fallen military members at the local cemetery. The food and service is always amazing.

What a GREAT little place. The picture and sound quality are every bit as good as the super cinemas. The ticket prices are significantly cheaper as well. The average adult ticket price is $6 and children 12 and under is $3. Popcorn is two dollars, canned drinks are a dollar (and they have a recycle can for the drinks as you exit the theater), candy is one to two dollars depending on what you want. It's a GREAT family outing.

If you like to collect original art, but find the prices at most galleries OMG expensive, do yourself a favor and drop into Gallery by the James. The artists there are delightfully talented, and because they are all local artists, the work is priced at a very affordable level. There is watercolor, oil, stained glass, acrylics to hang on your walls. For 3-D art collectors, there is pottery, raku, and turned wood. The only down side is that they are only open on the weekends. The gallery is housed in the town's original town hall and a neat place to see from a historical perspective.

We found this lovely park on the edge of the quaint town of Buchanan. We had a picnic at one of the sturdy tables. Then on our way back home, we went slightly out of our way to picnic in the gazebo. The area is nicely maintained with lavatories close by. The stream running through the park was idyllic.

I have been several times to have items framed and Barbara worked patiently with me to help me make the best selections. She also has lots of local art for sale at reasonable prices.

The Barefoot Peddler is a wonderful shop with great prices. It will bring out your nostalgic side with antique items and your whimsy side with furniture and quilt boards hand painted by the owner.
