Blarney Castle & Gardens

Situated 8km from Cork City, this historic castle is most famous for its stone, which has the traditional power of conferring eloquence on all who kiss it. The word Blarney was introduced into the English language by Queen Elizabeth I and is described as pleasant talk, intended to deceive without offending. The stone is set in the wall below the battlements, and to kiss it one has to lean backwards (grasping an iron railing) from the parapet walk. LAST ADMISSION IS 60 MINS BEFORE CLOSING TIME/Dogs Not Permitted/Drone Photography Prohibited

Our family had a great trip to Blarney, perfect weather and beautiful grounds are beyond what I expected. I imagine the busy travel season might be tougher on kissing the stone but we only waited 20-30 mins and the walk up is interesting as you read each plaque. The Stone was fine but I never expected the amount of other opportunities to be so good. Kids absolutely loved it, would highly recommend a full day there.

Roman Catholic Church

As I walked the village I noticed this quaint Catholic Church and as favorable circumstance would bear, I was in time for their Morning Mass. I was absolutely delighted to attend such a beautiful Mass, receive Communion, meet some of the Sisters of the Missionaries of Charity, and met a very nice woman named Rose. She gifted me music CDs and a fresh peach! I met other people there and I have to say they were all very kind and welcoming, wonderful examples of the charity exemplified by the greetings of St. Elizabeth and the Blessed Virgin Mother. Thank you my new friend Rose and the wonderful parishioners. Go raibh maith agat and Go Neiri on Bothar leat. Thank you and May the road rise with you.

Blarney Stone

Everyone says this is the most touristy thing to do in Ireland, but it was one of the funnest things we did. The castle and grounds were picturesque. You wind your way up the castle as you wait in line to kiss the Blarney Stone. Our wait was about 20 minutes which wasn't bad. It looks like on peak days could be over an hour. Once you get to the top you can watch others kissing the stone which was also fun. When it is your turn it goes very quickly so have your cameras ready!!! They also take a photo which you can buy.
