The stairs are closed now but you can hike the well marked trail up to the summit. It's a bit of a climb but not to hard of a hike. I actually think the trail is better than the stairs anyway. Some of the rocks were slippery under our feet. You can see the river below from one point and a few tree covered valleys. The views are definately worth the hike. Dogs are allowed. We went on a Wednesday and had the entire place to ourselves.

We have visited many Michigan State Parks and have never been too impressed with Baraga State Park. We decided to camp two nights during the week-our second visit this year, and we have come to love the park. The staff is absolutely the most pleasant, friendly and helpful staff we have ever seen in a Michigan State Park. We avoid the sites close to the road due to traffic noise, but find sites at the back of the park are not too bad. We discovered lots to do in the area-The Baraga County Lake and Country Tour is a must! This 48 mile tour on paved roads can be extended by venturing off to location just off the trail. We even extended our trip by an additional day, so we could take in more sights.
