If you visit the waterfall, it is worth taking a short walk from the top of the waterfall to the castle ruins. It is about 2 kilometers through the forest, with an ascent at the end. It is possible to reach for everyone. You do not need a good shape to reach it. The castle itself is not restored, but there are a few remains of the wall. Dreamlike, like in a picture book - an interesting castle ruin from the 11th century with an impressive view of Bad Urach and the surrounding area - mountains, forests, fields, valleys and the city with its old buildings When be there around on a nice day and you like nature - go for it!

Modelled on the Altes Schloss (Old Castle) in Stuttgart, Urach Residential Palace (Residenzschloss Urach) was built in the late 14th century and soon became the home of Count Ludwig I von Württemberg. After the reunification of Württemberg in 1482, the Palace became a well-frequented residence and hunting lodge for the Dukes of Württemberg.

After walking a nice, bit busy with other tourists, trail that is relatively steep and nicely maintained, that follows the little stream upwards you reach this very nice waterfall. You can get to the bottom of the fall by some steps and you can even get in behind the fall by climbing the last 20 meters of rock.

We were told to park at the train station but instead we drove up the road toward St. Johann and parked for free at a designated parking lot with trail signs. We then hiked 2 km down to the top of the waterfall and a picnic restaurant area. It rained the whole time which made the steps slippery but was still beautiful. We returned another way but there were many other trails, including down to the bottom of the waterfall -- next time.
