Arklow (from Old Norse Arnkell-lág, meaning 'meadow of Arnkell', Irish: An tInbhear Mór, meaning "the great estuary") is a town in County Wicklow on the east coast of Ireland, overlooked by Arklow Hill. Founded by the Vikings in the ninth century, Arklow was the site of one of the bloodiest battles of the 1798 rebellion. Just a wonderful experience all round. Very informative talk given in the beginning, both the history and currently state of the sport explained in depth. If you have any interest in animals/ wildlife I would highly recommend! The flying experience is wonderful. The birds are all in amazing condition and so obviously well looked after. The bond that the birds have with the instructor is adorable and they totally love what they do. No bird is forced to fly; when they decided to stop cooperating - especially the owl! - everyone just moved on. Everything was just amazing. Such a wonderful experience, if you know anyone with a slight interest in what falconry is, it's a wonderful birthdsy gift! You need a car to get around, as the area is pretty secluded. Not that far from Arklow town so lots of places to stay nearby and more to do if you want to make a weekend out of it!

In the absence of being able to do indoor dining with that amazing view, Arklow Golf Club are doing delivery or pickup! We had a lovely dinner from there today! We had a veggie lasagna and Salmon, it was delicious, good price and good service on pick up. We will definitely be ordering from there again!

Surrounded by rivers and mature forests, Woodenbridge Golf Club was described by the legendary Joe Carr as "Ireland's Augusta" and "The most scenic golf course in Ireland, a hidden gem". Woodenbridge is listed in the Golf Digest - Ireland's Top 100 Ranking, and is renowned for superb condition of the course and lightning fast, undulating greens.

Described as "one of the most valuable collections of maritime artifacts in the state", a treasure trove containing items, many brought back from far flung corners of the globe, all documenting the towns long association with the sea. Arklow's maritime history stretches back to the mists of pre-history. There is evidence to show that the 2nd century cartographer Ptolemy knew of its existence. In the 9th century the Vikings established the town and port on a permanent basis. The Normans consolidated its seafaring traditions. By the turn of the 20th century Arklow was Ireland's premier fishing port and had a fleet of 80 schooners, brigs and brigantines. To this day Arklow Shipping Ltd. has the largest fleet of vessels trading under the Irish flag and boat building still continues to be carried out by Arklow Marine Engineering Ltd. Until recently, wooden boats and ships were being constructed by John Tyrell & Sons Ltd., who designed and built Chichester's Gypsy Moth 3, the Irish sail vessel Asgard 2, numerous fishing vessels, trading vessels, pilot boats and many other types.
Found this little museum on TA for a rainy day visit in area. Interesting for local history, starting with a short film on maritime influence on the town and area. The kind staff pointed out things of significance in the many display cases, and our group wandered around looking at objects and photos happily for half an hour. Recommended if you are visiting Arklow for an overview of the background to the town and people who lived there.

We visited on a cloudy day but we all enjoyed the experience just the same. They have farm animals that the children can pet. They also have both an outdoor and indoor activity area. We had a picnic on one of their many picnic tables and were delighted to have visited. Highly recommend for families with small children.
