If you are interested in learning about the fascinating biography of Washington Irving, coupled with the history of his home, this is the destination for you. The grounds of the property are beautifully maintained. The home itself has retained many of its original details. The docent led tour by Lynda was very informative. 5 stars all around!

Overlooking the Hudson River in Tarrytown, New York, is Lyndhurst, one of America’s finest Gothic Revival mansions. Designed in 1838 by Alexander Jackson Davis, its architectural brilliance is complemented by the park-like landscape of the estate and a comprehensive collection of original decorative arts. Its noteworthy occupants included: former New York City mayor William Paulding, merchant George Merritt, and railroad tycoon Jay Gould. Lyndhurst is a site of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Our guide, Jim, gave such an informative, interesting tour of the mansion. You came away feeling you really got to know a lot about the people who had lived there! Every room was breathtaking in furnishings and decorations for Christmas! This was a perfect time to visit! Even though the mansion is very large, it felt like a home...just lovely!

We went here on a recommendation of a lady we met in a store in Sleepy Hollow. It was so beautiful. Part of the gardens is under construction but the parts we did see were still really lovely. It was a nice place to stop and take pictures.

We have lived in Dobbs Ferry long enough to remember when there was no waterfront park. Then, when it was created, we felt very lucky to have a lovely recreation spot between the railroad station and the Hudson River with beautiful views of the Palisades across the river, the Tappan Zee Bridge to the north, and the Manhattan skyline and George Washington Bridge to the south. After a long and expensive renovation, the park is still all of those good things and so much more. There's a small beach (no swimming), walking paths, a boat dock, a fishing pier, a picnic area with grills and tables, an enclosed playground for different age groups, benches for relaxing and enjoying the views, an exercise circuit at the north end, rest rooms in season, kayak storage, a stage for performances, and lots of trees.

Grand home and grounds of this former Rockefeller estate offer a marvelous collection of modern sculptures, Chinese and European ceramics, fine furnishings and beautifully landscaped terraces and gardens. KYKUIT IS TEMPORARILY CLOSED UNTIL MAY 3. Please continue to check this listing or go to our website for updates.
I took the Kykuit house tour of the home and grounds. I did not expect to see such spectacular views and a Picasso art collection that was so extensive. Our guide, "Merla" was a treasure. She made every room and outdoor view come alive. The weather that day could not be better and the grounds were as interesting as the home. Be sure to go on a day when good weather is predicted. You will be amazed at the sheer beauty of the location as well as the extensive and priceless art collection. What was particularly special was how close you could get to the objects. So much better than any museum.

The Greenburgh Nature Center has some nice trails considering where it's located. The main house works effectively enough in terms of interest for very young children, and the rest is over before one knows it. Everyone is quite likable and caring, but it just seems other venues are in a financial position to do this better. It's also a bit unnatural encountering generally wilder creatures inside the second floor of a house surrounded by neighbors with bikes in their driveway.
For me, The Greenburgh Nature Center's main attribute seems to be proximity for those within easy reach. We went with a three year old who, with no complaints, seemed to clearly enjoy herself better in all other trips in our company. Bear Mountain Zoo and surroundings do this all much better, with wider variety of offerings and less expensively.
-- One would imagine, in fairness, with far greater fiscal resources and subsidy as well.

This tour was an unexpected stop for me, but absolutely amazing! I did hear, however, that tours usually fill up quite quickly and sell out so I would try to get your tickets ahead of time.
This tour is of Washington Irving’s Home right on the Hudson. The house is quaint and charming and the tour really brings it to life, as well as showcasing Irving’s personality and influence over America and the world in its entirety.
Linda was our tour guide and she was EXCELLENT! You can roam the grounds there after your tour or even just go on the grounds themselves for a few dollars. It’s absolutely breathtaking.
