YMCA Collin County Adventure Camp

Reviewed By HavocDog - Texas

I take my science students to CCAC each year for a "science camp". The YMCA staff personalizes the event for us focusing on life science and earth science and TONS OF FUN! The camp has a multitude of activities for various ages and skill/adventure levels. The cabins are comfortable, well kept and the cafeteria gets rave reviews from the kids and teachers...we are always left wondering why school cafeterias can't do it like CCAC does. I highly recommend signing up for their activities, check out the website and pick one or more that might "float your boat" (and yes they have those too). The staff is absolutely GREAT and the fun is off the charts.

Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary

Nature Reserve, garden, hiking trails and nature center provides an escape to nature.

Reviewed By Hollis P - Westampton, New Jersey

We needed to get outside on a beautiful winter day and decided on a visit to the Heard Natural Science Museum. Our first stop was at the visitor center to get tickets and a map. The fee of $50.00 was reasonable for four adults and two children. The center offers several exhibits on the main and lower floors. There is a small gift shop that is conveniently stocked with many items under $5.00. After exploring the inside exhibits, head outside to the trails. Be careful. You will encounter some scary animated dinosaurs along the way. There is a frontier town which is actually a group of playhouses. Live animals are also located near this area. There are several spots with picnic tables to enjoy lunch or a snack.

Grayson Hills Winery

Nothing like a great winery. But one that is unique, and not like the mass-produced, high-volume shops is even better! Grayson Hills has a way of just draining the tension out of you. The country setting and perfect wine was amazing! You have to personally meet Rick and Connie, and hear the history of Grayson. Brilliantly laid out with facilities that can host your large and small parties! I will be going back!

Dog Park at Bonnie Wenk

Reviewed By TXchilibean

Bonnie Wenk Dog Park is "the" nicest and cleanest dog park we've ever visited with our schnauzer, PacMan.

When you enter you go through a series of gates to prevent accidental escapees. There are 2 separate areas - one for small to medium dogs and one for large, larger, and largest dogs.

The big dog area is very large. I see people using frisbees as well as ball-launching toys with their animal friends. The small dog area is good sized as well. Plenty of room for playing toss and fetch with your buddy.

My favorite part is a water play area accessible by all dogs. It is a concrete fountain with water coming from the ground and shooting up into the air. The dogs (and even kids) have a great time with this on those miserable, hot Texas summer days.

If you do visit be a responsible pet owner and use the provided doggie poop bags to pickup after your pet. If you see some poop (from a low-life pet owner who doesn't care) grab a bag and pick it up. Let's help keep it clean for the benefit of our shoes, but especially for our pet's sake.

Towne Lake Recreation Area

Reviewed By H2theK44 - Dallas, Texas

This is a large and well appointed park. Two group pavilions that can be rented; small lake for fishing, feeding ducks and paddle boats to rent. Playground, horseshoe pits, volleyball court and plenty of picnic tables with grills. Walking trail goes all the way around the lake, with fountain in the center. Well maintained and generally quiet. We have an annual family picnic here every fall.
