It’s not in the dictionary, but if it was, Go Ape would be described as a ‘tree top adventure’. That means we build giant obstacle courses up in the trees using ladders, walkways, bridges and tunnels made of wood, rope and super-strong wire, and top it all off with the world's best zip lines. We then equip people with harnesses, pulleys and carabiners, give them a 30 minute safety briefing and training and let them loose into the forest canopy, free to swing through the trees. Of course, instructors are always on hand, regularly patrolling the forests (not in monkey suits unfortunately!)The result is spectacular. The Go Ape experience gets the adrenalin pumping, gets people out of their comfort zones and above all (no pun intended), it’s just great fun.
This is a short adventure course that focuses on rope obstacles rather than zip lines. It is located in busy Allison Park. There is only minimal orientation from staff and minimal oversight as you navigate the courses on your own. The course is located in a small section of the park near the 65 acre lake. It takes about 3 hours to complete depending on your speed and crowds. It was a little concerning that they did not use helmets which is a first for us. They also wouldn't let us wear our own helmets which was even stranger. The highlight for us was the 2 swings into the nets. Parking can be a serious issue on weekends. Book in advance and arrive early to battle for a parking spot. Book an early time to avoid waiting during the course. Would have been 4 stars but the lack of provided helmets and preventing us from wearing our own helmets is very concerning and very atypical. Also the company did not seem to closely regulate how many people were allowed onto the course at a given time which caused long waits and lines. You can negate a better price for larger groups and they do offer AAA discounts. Think twice about taking smaller children here, also be prepared to get dirty and gain a few scrapes, bruises and scratches. Some of the difficult courses have alternative routes for soft fearful types.

We are lucky to live less than a mile away from this great place. It is wonderful for walking/jogging through the beautiful wooded property. Also, every Sunday night they have free summer concerts. It’s really nice to bring the family, some chair, a blanket and picnic basket and enjoy the concert. It is not to be missed if the weather is nice and you live in the North Hills.

I was visiting Pittsburgh and my friend suggested the Bayernhof Museum. She mentioned it was a music box museum so I imagined small music boxes in an elegant old home. WOW! Words cannot describe this lesser known and amazing museum.
The Bayernhof requires reservations and my friend and I were lucky enough to be the only ones on our tour. Our guide Jim was an enthusiastic man who treated us like we were personal guests of his. A tour hour tour for $10! This is a 19,000 square foot home built by the quirky Charles Brown. The mansion was completed in the early 1980's to have a German Bavarian feel.
Each bedroom has a bathroom and bar and there are secret doors and passages in the Brown private rooms and study. Hey, this house even has a man made cave in the basement. Mr. Brown was certainly eccentric but left us with a marvelous home.
Here is the fun part, Charles Brown loved music boxes but the gem of this collection are the HUGE automated music machines from the late 1890's and early 1900's. These are player pianos and player music machines that would have entertained patrons in hotels and arcades before motion pictures. You won't find a collection like this on display anywhere else. Jim played several of the machines for us and it is a truly amazing experience.

Great winery with a new restaurant attached (La Vite).
We joined friends at La Vita Ristorante which is inside the La Casa Narcisi Winery. They set out several bottles of wine for us to sample. I tried the Concord, Moscato, Riesling and Niagara. I enjoyed them all, but liked the Niagara the best. For appetizers, I sampled the calamari fritti (very good) and zucchini fritti served with marinara sauce (very good). I did not try the grilled Portobella Mushroom. They served bread and butter. Salads are a la carte. I ordered the Caesar Salad (good, but small). I ordered the Seafood Canneloni ( 3 homemade tubes of pasta stuffed with shrimp, lobster, crabmeat, spinach and ricotta cheese topped with mozzarella cheese and baked in a sherry cream sauce.) I felt for the price it was not a large serving compared to what others had ordered. My husband had the Chicken Milan (breaded chicken panned seared and baked with a mozzarella topping and served on herb linguini with marinara sauce. He said it was OK. For dessert, I had the cheesecake topped with strawberries (OK). My husband had the cannollies. They were drizzled with chocolate and the ends were dipped in chopped pistachio nuts. He prefers them plain. They have a diverse menu which is on the expensive side. I guess all in all the meal was OK, but wine and friends made it special. You can just come for the winery. They have an outdoor pavilion where you can bring your own food, but buy their wine and listen to music. Check their website for events. You can sample a variety of wines inside and they have a gift shop.

This is an amazing place, just outside of Pittsburgh, right off a very busy road. Pull in to the parking lot and start hiking into the most beautiful, peaceful spot. The park has recently updated all the bridges, stairs, and decks. You walk along crossing back and forth over the stream and then start up alongside a gorgeous waterfall. You can walk to the top and right to the edge of the fall. The trail continues after the waterfall and there is a park and playground, plus more parking at the top. It is a fantastic spot for hiking, picnicking, etc. It is just more peaceful and beautiful than you could imagine for its location. It does tend to be muddy, so be prepared for that.

Bicycle Heaven is the World's largest bicycle museum and bike shop.
After reading about this establishment on TripAdvisor we felt compelled to visit and we were absolutely delighted we chose to do so. The building is unassuming but step inside and I felt transported to a different world. There were bikes everywhere, of every description and vintage. The ether smelled of bikes. My memory was taken back to my childhood and cycling in the hills with my pals on their Raleigh Choppers. Over 3000 bicycles crammed into every nook and cranny. I felt the passion of the person who had amassed this wonderful collection. What a place, what fun, what nostalgia.

Theres so much good shopping with lots of variety. If you're looking for a Target then you're definitely in the wrong place. This is not discount shopping - it's good shopping. Parking is available but come early. The mall is easily accessible. Theres lots of extra shopping around the mall as well. Come with a plan and an empty credit card.
Oh, Target is just down the road...
