The finest bookshop in the world! A big claim - but this bibliophile's haven in idyllic Alfriston ticks every possible box. Cate Olson and Nash Robbins, originally from New England, have recently revamped their highly successful bookshop, which has had a devoted following here for many years. A winner of the Independent Bookshop of the Year award and heralded by the Guardian as one of the best independent shops in the country, Much Ado has an ever-changing stock of handpicked new and antiquarian titles, original cards, crafting packs, a cosy reading room and a diverse range of creative classes. Inspiring and uplifting, Much Ado is an absolute one-off.

I popped in just a half hour before closing, and I wish I had allowed more time. Both the house itself and the gardens are lovely. This is the first property that the National Trust acquired. The volunteers are very knowledgeable and happy to talk about this fascinating building that's full of history.

Church of England Church. Services every Sunday. Open every day for visitors to look around or just to sit quietly.
Love an old church building which is open throughout the day for wandering visitors to poke their nose into. A stunning place to enjoy - beautiful stained glass windows in there with lots of detail.

What an interesting store. The owner and her employee were nice and polite despite me teasing them slightly. Wonderful choice of wines and food. Their deli with their own made pies was very tempting and having purchased some of their homemade goodies... I can tell you that they are rather tasty too. Upstairs is a gift shop. Though there are some nice gifts to choose from , I did find it lacked imagination here and perhaps some gifts that related to the history of the place might be better placed for visitors. Would definitely visit again.

A charming, cosy, relaxed, friendly Inn with an even more charming hostess. The perfect place for recovering from a long ride along the South Downs Way with my buddies. Good company, excellent home-cooked food with quality ale and wine, followed by a good night's sleep and hearty breakfast. What more could one ask for!
