Worth a visit and a bit of research on the history of the building, lovely decorative carvings of cattle.

I walked around the ruins briefly whilst in Soissons on business. It was 9am on a chilly January morning, and I was the only tourist on the site but the informative plaques were helpful. I would return in season in order to visit the full site.

While the monument is impressive, the visitor center/museum is the treasure on this stop. It provides excellent descriptions of what happened in this area during the Great War. Plan at least an hour in the visitors center.

This was our second day in the champagne area and was the 3rd place we had been recommended to visit by a sommelier in London. ( see my other reviews re the other 2 in Congy and Etoges). Chateau Thierry was a little further away than the other 2 but worth it . We had contemplated touring one of the big well known houses in Épernay but to be honest they are a bit too slick and you can often buy the well known champagne in Sainsbury’s in the uk for less money ! We wanted to try champagne less familiar . Champagne pannier is actually quite large and there is a fee of €12 for a tour .we booked ahead by email with Marianne who spoke fabulous English and we had such an interesting tour of the ancient caves. There was a short video explaining the champagne making process and we were then able to taste some champagnes . €6 if you want to try more than one. We bought some vintage champagne and although more expensive than the other two houses we visited , it really was lovely and still only in the region of 20 something euros .

A delightful place to send a lazy few hours. A large marshland lake surrounded buy nature at it's best ( even saw my first bittern!). A small nature reserve and a huge recreational lake with artificial lake, kids (of all ages!) water activities, crazy golf etc. Deeper in there is a nice wildlife park/petting zoo where the animals all look well cared for ( note part is closed until next year as it is being improved). One down side - no ice creams were available while we were there but Murphy's Law a van passed us on the drive way as we left :-(
