A colonial touch blended with the robust Tamil culture, Pondicherry is just a two-hour picturesque drive away from Chennai. Visit here for the cobblestone cycling-friendly streets, the rich history of Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, and some of the best cafes in which to hang out. A place where lethargy is a virtue, enjoy the sun rise at the widely used beachfront. The same place converts into a local hangout at night when traffic is stopped and post-dinner walkers turn out for ice cream.

Excellent old church with towering high spires just opposite to the railway station. Altar is aesthetically done. The Gothic style 100-year-old church with some rare stained glass paintings of the 28 saints who were related to the devotion of Sacred Heart of Jesus, is one of the churches tourists visit often and is a famous pilgrimage site for Christians. The red and white-bricked walls reminded me of my primary school days - the Sacred Heart School. Visit to churches is a true reminiscent of so many childhood days. Right at the entrance are inscribed these degrees: "I will sanctify this place, for my heart is here." Cheers to life!!

Juan and Samai Reboul, born in a small village off the coast of Spain, were not introduced to the world of surfing until they moved to Auroville, India in 95, at the ages of 9 and 10. It was here that a group of surfing pioneers allowed them their own boards with which they could plunge into their newfound passion, unaware that this would lead them towards their present situation. As years went by, their enthusiasm for surfing grew and soon they found themselves with a notorious reputation for their loud voices, large fin-like noses and the habit of ditching school to catch some waves. Today, their old teachers still laugh about how, on several occasions, they unsuccessfully attempted to drag the two boys off their boards and into class (the brothers were apparently oblivious to the shouting figures on the beach). Soon Juan and Samai realised that they wanted to make their passion into their profession, at which point they started giving classes to children and teenagers of Auroville and Pondicherry. Any lapses in their teaching abilities were filled when they helped out at their friends' surf school in south-west France. Gathered from their various experiences in the world of surf, Kallialay Surf School (KASS) was created in January 2009 as one of the first surf schools on the south east coast of India. Having surfed these waters for the past 14 years Juan and Samai know all about their surf spot. The peers' sand banks provide waves suitable for both beginners as well as advanced surfers. The brothers' knowledge of English, French, Spanish and Tamil along with professional, imported equipment (foam-boards with rubber fins) gives beginners from all around the world a perfect opportunity to catch their first waves and enjoy it in the heat and bustle of South India.

Stayed at Kakinada for the road trip. Went to Rajiv Gandhi Beach at Yanam. It is a well maintained area. It has a mosque in the ship shaped structure. Shivling with two elephants looks Majestic. There is a church and on the shore side Jesus statue which is magnificient and below his feet in the cave like structure sculped are the events from Jesus life. Then there is Brarat Mata statue with Tricolour in Her hand and with the lion. Very big statue of Bharat mata never seen before. There are stone sculptures of Ahoka Pillar and vairous animals and other figurine, which enhance the beauty of the area. Scenic spot to see the majestic Godavari river flowing peacefully before merging into Bay of Bengal.
