I seek out these small town castle ruins in my travels. Some are over restored, some become touristy. This one was above the town, a place where locals might take a local short hike and clear their head. There wasn't anyone but myself at the top! Incredible views, and not over restored. The town should be proud of the monument they are preserving.

The water mill was rebuilt from the original ship mill on a wheeled road in 1905. After the reconstruction of the building in 1995, the visitors are waiting on the banks of the Little Danube in a picturesque natural environment. In the vicinity of the mill there is an open-air museum focused on the village's past. Currently, it is being reconstructed together with an open-air museum. The whole object is closed since 19/6/2018 until summer season 2019.

They market themselves as an animal shelter so we expected to see a tiger, a lion and perhaps a couple of donkeys. How wrong our expectations were! This is a proper ZOO. A small one, but a ZOO with a nice selection of animals - tigers, lions, cheetahs, panthers, bears, wolves, zebras, a camel, monkeys, meerkats, owls, parrots, goats... the list goes on. Enclosures seem generous size with a variety of toys and facilities for animals so they don't get bored easily. The whole complex is clean, well marked and includes a restaurant and a cafe. There are just 2 negatives that have nothing to do with how Malkia Park is run but which spoilt the visit for us a bit. First, it was a VERY hot day so most animals were hiding in shades, tucked away, difficult to find. Secondly, the Slovakia Ring racing circuit is about a kilometre away. There was some sort of a motorbike event going on and it was LOUD! We will certainly go back to visit Malkia Park again, probably in cooler weather and we'll check the Slovakia Ring events calendar to make sure our visit doesn't collide with an event there. :)

Nice, romantic and very photogenic castle with park. Great place for visit with kids to do picnic or to go by bike. This place is also good starting point to many hiking tracks (Zaruby biggest peak of Small Karpats) or you can walk to Cave Driny. I didn't visit inside of castle but definitely view from tower must be beautiful.
