The people of Orange are so lucky to have such a glorious amenity on their doorstep. I strongly suggest walking around the lake in a counter-clockwise direction. After strolling through the forest, you'll end up at the high point of the circumnavigation, the dam wall, with its unbeatable views on all sides.

We visited this fabulous playground with 5 children aged between 6-12 years old. Everyone LOVED it. Lots of swings, slides and places for imagination plus a scooter track too! We spent a few hours here and this kids still weren’t ready to leave. There are lovely places to have a picnic too with picnic tables. It’s right next door to the Botanical Gardens which we enjoyed a walk through to get to the playground ( even though it can be accessed via car with a car park next to it )

The Orange Visitor Information Centre is co-located with the Orange Regional Museum (museum opening hours are 9am - 4pm) at 151 Byng Street. It's the ideal place to commence your adventures in one of Australia's top food and wine destinations. We'll share our local knowledge on the best places to stay, the amazing landscapes, award-winning wines, kids activities and charming villages of the region. You'll love the truly seasonal visitor experience here with the colours of Autumn and Spring contrasting the long warm days of Summer and the occasional snowfall in Winter. A look around the Museum will introduce you to our history and the café next door will entice you with our famous local produce. There's a range of hand crafted souvenirs too, including local hand-made art and crafts. The Orange Visitor Information Centre is open 7 days and the team are always ready to help.
Lots of information here, make it your first stop and plan out your time here, so much to see and do in the area we had a great trip.

Heifer Station Wines is a small family owned and operated single vineyard tasting room in one of Oranges most picturesque areas. Set in a turn of the century, historic sheep shearing shed on rolling volcanic terroir. At almost 900m elevation the vineyard is truly cool climate. We offer intimate vineyard tours for groups of 5 on our 6 seater golf buggy by pre arrangement. There is also a little 'funny farm' for the little (and Big) kids to enjoy. Feed the chooks, goats and pony. Varietals and Styles include: Chardonnay, Pinot Gris, Rose, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Shiraz. Our newest wine is Genisse a Methode Australis Chardonnay/Pinot sparkling. "With respect for the earth, and a whole lot of Altitude - The fruit does the talking! That's the Heifer Station Way. We then add the love to create elegant single vineyard wines you will want to enjoy again and again"
Loved our wine tasting session at @heiferstationwines yesterday. So glad I ordered their cheese platter to go with, it was delicious along with local preserves and sweet baby figs cheese ???? I enjoyed tasting their Génisse (French word for Heifer) NV Brust, their interesting white grape Rosé Saignée, Chardonnay. I really liked their 2018 handpicked Shiraz ???? It’s also a great place for families to visit for wine tasting as it a sandpit, roaming chickens and petting zoo.

Cook Park is a beautiful oasis in city which clearly values its trees. Amazing old trees, well kept lawns and plenty of benches for a quiet read in a tranquil setting. I was lucky enough to catch the Begonia House in full flower, a very special experience. Lots of young families were having a great time watching the ducks and playing on the swings. A lovely park.

We did a U turn and drove back to the store....glad we did. Pick your own figs and plums were delicious. We also brought some olives, cooking salts and honey. Owner was very helpful. Worth a stop along the road to Orange.

The Museum has a new exhibition of photographs from the Central Western Daily (local newspaper) of men and women at work in the 1950 / 60's. The pictures (taken from the approx. 1.5 million negatives donated to the local Historical Society) show, with amazing clarity in spite off their age, many people working at occupations, many of which no longer exist. It is a great memory trip for some more senior people, and an eye-opener for the younger generation.

After a long windy drive up the mountain the view at sunset was lovely! Really worth the drive to see the valley view and take in the vista in front of you. At some points the trees are tall obstructing the view. A few information boards in centre of carpark to read about the area. Lots of parking. Also some walking trails you can do.
