The walkway across the top of the massive dam offers spectacular views of the lake. Almost a mile long, it’s an easy flat walk which can be enjoyed by old and young alike. There’s also a Park for picnicking, trails down to the lakeshore, and an interpretive kiosk detailing the construction of the dam. There’s no charge to access the dam or park.

Potters Creek Park

Boardering Canyon Lake, this park offers many lakeside activities.

The park is nice enough. It’s run by the US Army Corp of Engineers. There is a fee to enter the park. My problem is that they only allow overnight campers past the gate. If you meet that standard you will be very happy with the facilities. They can accommodate tents and 40 ft long RVs. There are covered areas you can use and excellent shower houses along with a great view of the lake as the park is waterfront. It is always clean and well maintained. Reservations are highly suggested as it is a popular destination. Of course it’s located on Potter’s Creek Road.

My experience comes from visiting on a Thursday, so I'm sure it's a whole lot different on the weekend. We arrived at around 10 am and the park was nowhere near capacity. We walked around to look at the area since it was our first time there. I went over to the tables by the big play ground and the little beach area. It's ok, but where you want to go is over to the left by the rocks. There's no sandy beach, but it's way more fun (if everyone in your party can swim, I wouldn't go there for little toddlers.) We set up our canopy and chairs, and jumped in the clear, refreshing water. You can sit on the rocks and the water is kind of shallow, but it doesn't gradually get deeper, you just step off the rock to the next rock until you can't touch anymore. Really enjoyed this park and would definitely go back during the week, did not feel crowded and really enjoyed our visit.

Cranes Mill Park

One of many parks along Canyon Lake.

Reviewed By glens183 - Houston, United States

Came here in mid Nov and got great weather and bad weather. The park is pretty small and has 30 rv spaces vey near the lake. The grass could be a little more manicured but the views are good and we got a good shade tree in #26. The bathrooms were clean and spacious and everything workred. The pads are asphalt and level from side to side. We had a downward slope to our pad but it was not a problem. The area has a peninsula that is for tent camping and boat launch. This is also the area for day use. It was closed off but it was a pleasant walk. The normal rate for rv is $26 but we got the senior discount with our federal park discount. Good qualty connections for water and electric but no sewer but there is a pump out as you leave. The lady who checked us in could not have been nicer. We had a great time here and hope we can return soon.
