November 9, 2021 Randal Brittian

The Principality of Monaco, a small city-state overlooking the pristine blue waters of the Mediterranean, is a place famed for its glamour and wealth. The Palais Princier, former home of Princess Grace and current home of her son, Prince Albert II, is at the top of the cliff-bound medieval Monaco-Ville. More well known is Monte Carlo, a neighborhood soaked in sun, money, and expensive champagne, and home to the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix, the European Poker Tour, and the Monte Carlo Rally.

Jardin Exotique de Monaco

Beautiful tropical gardens surrounding the Observatory Cave, featuring weird rock formations.

Reviewed By Picky1Traveler - Las Vegas, United States

The Jardin Exotique was difficult for us to find. The street signs send you in circles. It would have been nice if there was a tourist bus that took you up there. We came back another day by car with the address and it is right on top of the city. We paid 7.20€ and it was worth the entrance fee. The Jardin is filled with beautiful different cacti. I’ve never seen so many different types. The path wanders round and is beautifully done. There is also a small pond with Koi fish. There are also benches so you can sit and admire. You can also get stunning views of the harbour and the royal residence. Once you have done the Jardin you can also go to the Cave which is included with your ticket. There is also a washroom (no cost), just off from the entrance to the cave. In total it is about 300 steps down. There are handrails to hold on to. The tours are hourly on the hour. A guide takes you down the steps and once at the bottom they talk about the cave and the stalactites and stalagmites. It is only in French but we had a multilingual group and people were wonderful with the translation. The tour takes about 20 minutes but our group took about 40 minutes which included the climb up. We had all ages in our group. There is no rush to get to the top. You can stop and rest on your way up if you have to but it is a steady climb up. It is also quite wet at the bottom so it may be slippery. The temperature in there is constant between 18 and 25 degrees C I believe they told us....so not too cold. Would definitely recommend this visit!

The breathtaking casino, cafe de Paris, numerous other pavement cafes and restaurants and a very very well stocked and reasonably priced souvenir shop Whats not to love in one of Europe’s most iconic locations
