We have quad-biking, an army-style assault course and the ultimate high ropes* adventure course, all set in THE tallest trees in eastern England! Independently run, our high ropes course has 20 exhilarating activities and includes the 45ft high 3G swing (a massive swing!), plus optional fan descender jump and/or 1000ft zip wire - both from an 80ft platform! We also offer a real tree climbing experience, which can done separately or combined with our other activities. For those who are feeling less adventurous there is a woodland walk and we have a covered picnic pavilion with an open log fire for shelter and dining. Facilities include an under 10's play area (children must be supervised), FREE car park and woodland cafe. We stayed at Majors Lodge for a week in September to celebrate our ruby wedding anniversary. It was a last minute booking to replace our original villa in France which was cancelled and how pleased we were to have found such a gem. Right from the start Anna couldn’t have been more helpful in organising the accommodation to our requirements and understanding the needs of our nine month old grand daughter. The Lodge is situated right on the edge of the Watatunga Wildlife Reserve overlooking grassland and affording great views of the endangered ungulates from the deck, garden and sun room. Accommodation is very comfortable and spacious. The bedrooms are large, beds comfortable and bed linen luxurious. There is a large lounge with open fire if you want it, large dining room, well appointed kitchen and a great sunroom where we tended to eat all the time because of the views. Three bathrooms meant there was never a queue! The decking has gates that can be secured to stop little ones roaming too far but the garden is enclosed anyway. There is a large gas barbecue. So now to the reserve itself. 170 acres of varied habitat from grassland that transports you to Africa, old woodland reminiscent of the New Forest and two lakes with some other wet areas. The wildlife is free to roam over the whole reserve. We were privileged to have a guided tour by Ed, who is clearly so passionate about protecting endangered species and educating others about the issues involved, after which we had exclusive use of one of the buggies for the whole of our stay so we could explore the reserve at out leisure. It is a wonderful place to spend some time. Very peaceful. Besides the varied species of deer and sheep we saw several varieties of pheasant, had close encounters with water buffalo, saw a barn owl quartering across one of the fields and were extremely privileged to see Great Bustards. Besides use of the buggy we had exclusive access to a hide overlooking one of the lakes with several species of duck. Buzzards, a kestrel and a sparrow hawk were all seen near the lodge. One of the many highlights was helping Hope bottle-feed some of the young animals one morning. This was enjoyed by everyone regardless of age! You can visit Watatunga and do a guided tour but I highly recommend that you take longer and stay here as we did. I am sure you will not be disappointed.

We loved it here! A really interesting house & gardens with some lovely short woodlands walk. The cafe was also good - We had a really nice baked potato & later had a coffee & cake. We also spent some time just sitting in the deckchairs provided to just enjoy the view of the fabulous house. This is definitely one of my fave NT properties & highly recommend a visit.

What a great find. Beautiful Gardens, many different species of flowers, plants, bamboo and wildlife. An oasis to wander through. the coffee shop was open for takeaway because of Covid with enough choice for us. There are plenty of benches to sit and eat. Due to the virus the way is one way and easy to follow. There are so many lovely bridges over water. On the hideaway you could sit and wait to see a Kingfisher. ( we didn't though). I loved all colours of the plants , flowers and grasses. A must for nature lovers. A peaceful retreat in this busy world listening to the water and enjoying nature. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

Seriously impressed with this pub which we visited at lunchtime with three young kids. They are doing everything they can to guard against the spread of coronavirus - taking the measures much more seriously than other premises we’ve seen, with food served in single use (but sustainable) tableware, staff using masks and outdoor tables spaced for effective social distancing. It gives a huge amount of confidence. And all this without damaging the atmosphere of this beautiful establishment, with a gorgeous beer garden and excellent menu. The food was delicious and the staff friendly and efficient. Would very much like to visit again.
