Hartbeespoort, informally also known as "Harties", is a small resort town in the North West Province of South Africa, situated on slopes of the Magaliesberg mountain and the banks of the Hartbeespoort Dam. The name of the town means "gateway of the hartbees" (a species of antelope) in Afrikaans. It was previously known as Schoemansville, named after General Hendrik Schoeman, a Boer General in the Anglo-Boer War, who owned the farm that the Hartbeespoort Dam was built on.

Honestly, the best one I’ve had so far. They were so nice to book us in last minute, literally 10pm the night before and arranged our transportation. Horses were very calm and great for first timers and non experienced riders. That’s Padi and he was so well behaved, I couldn’t believe.

Award winning Hartbeespoort based craft distillery. Visit our tasting room for a Gin and Chocolate pairing, rum tasting and distillery tours. Don't forget a great cocktail whilst you enjoy the view over the Magalies mountains. Only 3 kilometers from the Hartbeespoort Aerial Cable way and various restaurants.
We had a wonderful experience at Incendo Distillery. We had the Gin Tasting paired with Chocolate and a tour of the distillery. The gin was very good. What made this experience though was the outstanding customer service and the "tasting experience" where we got to smell and touch the ingredients while learning a lot about gin! It is a family business in which the owner and his wife are more than happy to discuss the ins-and-outs of their business. They are certainly very knowledgeable about their craft...which is not always the case at other brewerys, vineyards, etc that we have visited in the past. Oddly, it is a great place for families with small children. When a family arrived with two young children, the hostess quickly found a picnic blanket and even some toys to entertain the kids. A GREAT experience.

The Monkey Sanctuary is one of several sanctuaries in a group of sanctuaries, including the elephant sanctuary that provides for orphaned and abused animals. Situated west of Hartbeesport Dam alongside the Elephant sanctuary it provides an environment where monkeys (primates) can be given their freedom in a natural environment. The sanctuary situated in one of the many Kloofs (Gorges) of the Magaliesberg mountain range provides the perfect environment for Monkeys from around the world.
We went for an anniversary and had an amazing time!!! Terribly sad that so many of these animals ended up there due to irresponsible and illegal pet ownership. But a wonderful day out!

We spent around 2 hours with these amazing animals, in a group setting. We walked trunk in hand with the elephants, got to see and touch them up close, feed them and we were even kissed by them. The guides were so friendly and knowledgeable, we learnt a lot and feel so blessed that we had the opportunity to meet these amazing animals. This will go down as one of the best experiences I have had in my life. 100% recommend, totally worth the money!

Family (wheel chair friendly!) outing catering for old and young. Apart from the various informative hikes (LOVED the titbits of information every where!), ride in the cable car and surprising GREAT restaurants on top of the mountain, there is also a very good play area for the kids with a jumping castle and lastly: the VIEW over Hartbeespoort Dam and surrounds (look out for the giraffe peeking at you as you ride with the cable car - adorable!!).

It was my first time going horse riding and I was scared at first but I was given the best and well-behaved horse named Juliet. It was an amazing experience and the open-air Swedish massage was the cherry on top. I would definitely recommend it to other travelers.

This Nature Reserve is unfortunately no longer open to the public. We still offer accommodation, please visit our website for more information.
Best safari I ever did. Silkaatsnek offers a horseback safari, which is absolutely great. You really feel one with the giraffes and zebras walking about. Staff was very friendly and professional and all animals are well cared for. The horses were well trained to deal with people without riding experience. The area is great as well, though I had hoped we would venture a bit more up to the hills. Still, highly advise anyone to go here.

Magalies Park is conveniently located less than an hour from Johannesburg under the Magaliesburg escarpment and on the Magalies river. It is a fun resort with lots to do for the entire family and is very well managed and maintained. The golf course is in good condition and is an excellent challenge. The main club house has good restaurant and bar facilities, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, tennis courts, mini golf, water activities. There is also a very nice spa for those in need of pampering. There are some nice restaurants and other interesting places and activities (para gliding, hot air ballooning, hiking, the mountain cable car) nearby.
